I felt a new thread for this project was necessarily because of the insane amount of non-stop drivel being posted in the previous one. The entire thread is filled with either people posting crap or people complaining about others posting crap and it's time for that to end.
Of course there has been a massive positive contribution as well, loads of renders, 1000s of photos, inside info and so on, I just think it's time to give this thread a fresh start.

We're going to need some new guidelines, otherwise we'll just end up with the same old drivel filled thread again so here they are:

1: When posting lots of photos at once you can have a few large photos in the same post but if you have a lot more the rest should be thumbnailed, not everyone has an ultra-fast connection. To do this you can go to http://imageshack.us and do it there. A model post can be found here
2: Quoting other people's pictures should not be done (unless there's a good reason for doing so). If you want to comment about someone's photos you can quote their text or just refer to the photo but don't repost it.
3: Reposting loads of old photos will not be allowed unless the photos are reposted for a good reason (ie, to explain something) or just happen to be insanely good (such as the night shot in this thread).
4: Please do not post trivial info that everybody already knows, or exists just a few pages back (ie, "I think the building will have about 160 floors", "when was the last update?", etc).
5: Please limit the amount of "great updates" type posts. If you want to make such a comment you can but make sure a lot of people haven't said similar things right before you.
6: Any post complaining about another member will be deleted, if you have problems with someone else PM the mods and we'll sort it out. This was a real problem in the previous thread and will NOT be tolerated this time.
7: If you post someone else's photo then please give a link where you got it from or else mention the creator's name.
8: When quoting multiple posts please combine them all into one post rather than creating lots of posts in a row.

There are probably some more I could list but can't think of them off the top of my head. They're more like guidelines anyway rather than black and white rules but you get the idea, ie, more quality vs quantity.
The best thing to do before you click the "submit reply" button is read back over your post and ask yourself, will people be interested in reading my post? If the answer is no then it might be better not to bother posting it.

I don't think the two-tone paint in the fountain area has come off very well. I'd rather they had just kept it the lighter shade and the the fountain jets had just been more visible. I wonder if there's and plan to, when the rest of the water areas are completed, color the water somehow so that it's not so clear. I mean, if that's the worst thing that ever happens with this building it's not so bad, but I do find it distracting in the aerial photos.

The shaded area isn't about the jets, it's about the jet spray and the distance they can shoot. It's a simple way to demarcate the path for the little boats residents can use to go in and around the lake. The system has to be obvious not just during the day, but the night as well. It's a cheap solution, but it's a solution nevertheless. Not sure it's worth creating a GPS system just because the pool doesn't look right from the air.

Thanks for the explanation. I wonder if instead they could have installed a series of up-lights are around that parameter that boats could see day and night but without having to change the color of the whole bottom. Oh well, it doesn't look bad in the photos taken at ground level.

Hey Imre, sorry I couldn't note this earlier but I was just out of town on business for the weekend. I noticed a photo from Burj Dubai I think you might have shot (or at least another forum member posted it) that made it into the top 10 American Airlines photos for a contest they're currently running.

Just thought you'd appreciate knowing - or whomever it was that took that shot.

Guess it just goes to show that simply the height of BD (and good timing) can make for great photos!

An easy way to tell is levels 123 and 124 are the only 6.00 meter high levels on the BD and their cladding panels are 6m. high also. Up higher there are levels and sections that are 6.4 m. but they are clad with 2 - 3.2m. high panels. There is one 5.3m. high level in some of the MEP areas but 123 and 124 are the only tall levels right next to each other.

Try Faststone Image Viewer - it's free and a great program with many features including good draw and label features. (It actually rivals any of the expensive programs with a large list of features - I've been using it for years)

The top 2 levels of the concrete have 3.2m. high cladding just like the steel levels and sections above - the top of the concrete isn't the highest 4.8m. high cladded level.

The highest tier named roof 4/Spire 1 is tier 22 - I would call that the "roof" (and the top of that tier is 720.1 m.).

Tier 27 terrace is the highest terrace one can stand on - but as you know one can stand on the top of the pinnacle also.

You know I'm not trying to be a dickhead but as you also know I'm very anal when it comes to the levels and tiers of our mighty BD.



So Gerald saw the observation deck lit up. This reinforces my notion that the observation deck may be part of the soft opening on Dec. 02.

What's the chances Emaar will let the general public think the whole of the works will be completed on Dec 02 ? Very good me thinks and I bet there will be major hoopla also. Maybe they will surprise me and issue a press release stating the truth (this time). Hopefully after Dec. we will be able to tell how the interior is progressing either with pics from site visitors or by watching the interior lighting as the nights go on.
