I have a few comments that i would like to make about the person who thinks this buidling is ugly or that it wont receive any awards.

First of all, I presume you are from the United States (same here), but I also presume you are one of the people of this country (20%) who doesn't have a brain or if you do have such a tiny microcosm of it, you just use it to type BS in skyscraper forums without knowing anything about skyscrapers.

Second of all, If you think this building is worse than the two boxes of the WTC with windows of around 38 inches (from which you can barely see anything outside) with energy and water being wasted you are greatly mistaken. The only reason I have a display picture of the WTC is because I am amazed that BOXES can reach that height.

Third of all, I bet if this building was in America or wherever you are from, you would praise it and wont call Dubai a city of decline, when New York and Dallas struggle to pay their bills and takes them 12 years to build 1 tower. At the same time Dubai built a whole Manhattan. So please keep your ignorance to yourself.

Finally, I hate people who come in a forum to smear a building simply cause your country sucks too much at build one or has too mych politics to worry about without caring for people's lives. So I urge you to leave this thread if you can't appreciate the beauty of Burj Dubai. The WTC didnt take long to build and the only innovation that it had were the Cranes and the way the outer walls supported the structure (from which you can barely see anything).

So please spare us your irrelevant opion and don't post on a thread dedicated to people have interest in this building and who believe your opinion is retarded. If you don't think this building is something new and something to be proud of (the human spirit) then keep your stupid opinions to yourself. Funny how when people go to the new WTC thread on this forum you bash them for giving their opinions, yet come here and talk about how this building isnt perfect?? When you finally build the WTC (hope its this century) then we can compare. Till then, we don't want your opinion.

Thanks and hope some of this comment and info got to you. If it didnt then its a hopeless case!

Because such comments usually start pointless arguments and furious defense of opinions that lead to nothing else but deconstructive communication. In addition, leaves the thread filled with posts (spam) that most of the time have nothing to do with the topic at hand. (just like this one and yours)
Besides that I am all for constructive criticism.

i mean cmon guyz i do respect ur views but u also have to respect mine.
i think its an ugly simple tower that uses a simple technique (bigbase to small top) to achive its height. and among all the proposed designs from SOM this did not recieve any awards period.
now if u think other wise that i will respect.
P.S here is the site that supports my claim search all of the towers and try to compare awards.
http://www.som.com/content.cfm/www_projects?region=MI
iSorrow, I agree with you that BJ is not really beautiful.

But to say that BJ is an ugly skyscraper, absolutely not.
In my eye, Shanghai Tower is the most beautiful among all skyscrapers.

Cheers!

first of all, respect to all opinions except to those that can not respect the opinions of others. second i think burj dubai is more of a scientific achievment more than a beautiful tower. I judged it as ugly not cause its a sore to the eyes but it cuz the renders were far better. come tto think of it again its not ugly but absoulotly not beautiful. if u think i hate dubai go ahead. but the fact is i been there 98 99 and 2001 and i used to think (thank) it was the city of the future. never the less it is beautiful.
no am not from the united states infact am from this country.

finally I got some press materials from the Emaar today

Fact Sheet - Burj Dubai

Currently the world’s tallest building and tallest man-made structure, Burj Dubai is at the centre of Downtown Burj Dubai, the flagship mega-project of Emaar Properties in Dubai. The final height of the tower will be revealed on its completion in 2009.

With a development value of over US$1 billion, Burj Dubai, when completed, will fulfil all the criteria of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH), which ranks the world’s tallest buildings on the basis of spire height, the highest occupied floor, roof height and pinnacle height.

At a current height of over 800 metres (2,625 ft), Burj Dubai has now also scaled over 160 levels, the most number of storeys in any building in the world. Burj Dubai has already surpassed the height of the KVLY-TV mast in North Dakota, USA - 628.8 metres (2,063 ft), which held the distinction of being the world’s tallest man-made structure. Burj Dubai is taller than Taipei 101 in Taiwan, which at 508 metres (1,667 ft) has held the tallest-building-in-the-world title since it opened in 2004. The tower also surpassed the 31-year-old record of CN Tower, which at 553.33 metres (1,815.5 ft) has been the world’s tallest free-standing structure on land since 1976.

Leveraging on the advancements in construction engineering, Burj Dubai undertook height enhancement in 2008 and is also upgrading its interior finishes. International designers from California have revisited the designs to make the residences more attractive and functionally superior.

In just 1,325 days since excavation work started in January, 2004, Burj Dubai became the tallest free-standing structure in the world. More than 11,000 consultants and skilled construction workers are employed on site, and the world’s fastest high-capacity construction hoists, with a speed of up to 2 m/sec (120 metres/min), were used to move men and materials.

When completed, the tower will have used 330,000 cubic meters of concrete, 39,000 metric tons of steel rebar and 142,000 sq m of glass – and 22 million man hours.

The design inspiration for Burj Dubai is drawn from the desert flower, Hymenocalis, and incorporates patterning systems that are embodied in Islamic architecture. The tower is designed as three petals arranged around a central core. As the tower rises from the flat base, the petals setback in an upward-spiraling pattern.

Burj Dubai’s structure has employed the latest advances in wind engineering, structural engineering, structural systems, construction materials and construction methods. It will have a high performance exterior cladding system to withstand the harsh summer temperatures.

A mixed-use tower, Burj Dubai features 2 million sq ft of residential and over 220,000 sq ft of prime business space, in addition to the Armani Hotel Dubai, and Armani Residences Dubai, luxury hospitality ventures by Emaar in association with haute couture major Giorgio Armani S.p.A.

The tower offers recreational facilities and entertainment venues including four luxurious pools and a cigar club, a library, exclusive residents’ lounge, serviced residences, fitness facilities and an observatory deck on level 124, At The Top opening to impressive views of Dubai. The tower will also have a large Office Annexure.
