Gawd gerald. I didn't think you meant quarter size of the actual building. I'm trying to find an 8 foot long piece of paper to print that one out on.

8 feet won't be nearly long enough for what I've got planned.

But for now, how about a 10 meter print of the pano I did last year?

My father is in the digital media field and has a wide format printer, so could probably print one out at 3M wide, at 720dpi. Surely would be about 20M long if not more. Yes 3 Meters wide

720dpi would be serious overkill for a print that size. Incredibly impressive, but certainly overkill!

My current biggest pano of the BD is 50,000 by 30,000 pixels. At 720dpi, that would come out less than 2 meters tall! It would look fricking amazing at that level of resolution though...

Hi Imre - yet another great update. Yes the crane currently at level 99 (R1 - Favco 242R) is the only crane we see right now but that will change shortly. The small crane that was at level 159 (R3 - Favco SDD 5/10) that lowered R1 to level 99 ( on 09 09 23/24) has been manually disassembled and either taken down to level 99 in an elevator or lowered down with a BMU. We will see it appear beside R1. It will then lower the disassembled pieces of the larger crane to the podium.

At that point R3 will be the only crane we see and the last crane on the BD. It will then disappear by manual disassembly for its last elevator ride down to the podium. That will complete the crane disassembly proceedure and will mark another milestone for this magnificent structure.

Is this possible ? Using the BMU at Mech 4 (Level 109/111) to bring down R3 after it has done its job ? Can that BMU reach the crane position at the terrace on L99 ?

Maybe the future owner of the apartment on L99 at the crane site is following what goes on here and what would he think of the idea that a crane is being dragged through his apartment as would be necessary to move it disassembled on a trolley from the terrace to lift BS1/F to get it down to the ground and out of the building ?

Comments ?? Thank you

Anyway, after this operation is over, we will then see the Burj as it's meant to be seen, and as it will eventually appear on many postcards from Dubai, and on TV shows from around the world.

Question for Gerald/Imre - aircraft beacons in pics ?

I noticed that the aircraft beacons don't make a big show in pictures taken at night. I thought they needed to be very visible even in fog, cloud, etc.

Can you, or anyone suggest why the beacons don't show brighter than they do. We know they are there.

Comments ?

Thank you

Yes - good to see they will keep 09 12 02 as the soft opening date. I agree there will probably be much hoopla - as there should be. It will be great to see part of this thing open for business - there should be lots of interior pics. I still would like to see Emaar release a press release stating the entire structure is not completed but I highly doubt it - no matter, we will know.

The soft opening should include ;
- the Armani hotel - to level 8 and 38, 39
- the Armani residences - levels 9 to 16
- the hotel residences - levels 19 to 37
- the observation level - 124
- podiums A, B, and C fully landscaped
- the hotel entrance and lobby
- the observation elevator lobby
- the residential entrance and lobby - ?
- the pool annex - ?
- the office annex - ?
- some or all of the residential - levels 44 to 72 - ?

The luxury residential and boutique offices above that will most likely not be open yet so neither the office entrance and lobby. Hopefully we will get some insider shots or info after 09 12 02 so that we will be able to follow the progress of the higher levels and perhaps determine when they are open. If nothing else we should get an idea from what levels are lit up at nights.

Hi Coin. The final CTBUH measurement could be as high as 824.6 m. if they include the Concourse level and the beacons on top - both of which are possibilities. That does not change the 818.0 as per the plans however and I think they followed them.

We could watch for any letters to the homeowners for clues. The residential lift lobby on the ground has 6 lifts, 3+3 one or two of the L43 lifts would need to be available if the res opens, but certainly at least one would be for workers, along with all of the L76 lifts. So it will still be everybody stay alert for their own safety and try to stay out of each others way.

Same deal for the obs lobby - one lift for the public, one for workers.

Even the hotel may need one lift still assigned for construction so they can finish everything.

Let's hope they get a measurement of 824m + they deserve it.

Hi all.

Library.
I think R3 will come down to the podium by elevator as originally planned. It probably got from level 159 to 99 the same way.

Interesting thought about the pieces being trollied through someones future residence. I can't see it being an issue though.

As for R3 being set up on level 99 yet - looking at Gerald's shot from today it looks like the center support may be there. It is hard to tell when zoomed in that close. There is something blue there to the left of R1 ...

Gerald is there access to the full size shot ? - or can you post a crop of the full size shot showing the crane ?

Yeah, just watched it on market place middle east.
Right from the horse’s mouth.

He said they are trying, thought. A month and a half is not a lot of time.

p.s I didn't know the Burj was sold out 3 years ago!
