Hi all.

Hi Imre.

There are a number of possibilities when the CTBUH makes their official measurement after completion.

1 - 818.0 m. - This is the height as per the plans and is measured from the floor of the ground level to the top of the pinnacle.
2 - 818.6 m. - This is from the floor of the ground level to the top of the beacons on the top of the pinnacle. (this assumes the beacons are 0.6 m. but that estimate looks close by looking at the vid from the top from a few months ago)
3 - 824.0 m. - This is from the floor of the concourse level to the top of the pinnacle.
4 - 824.6 m. - This is from the floor of the concourse level to the top of the beacons.

There are some things to think about here.
- The now defunct top platform was to be welded on top of the pinnacle with its floor at 818.0 m. I don't see a weld line near the very top of the pinnacle so I'm pretty sure they welded a plate with the hatch inside tier 30 ~ 1.1 m. down from the top. In other words the top of tier 30's pipe that is now the "railing" around the platform with the hatch is at 818.0 m. and not the hatch platform itself as was the plan with the defunct top platform. There is some tiny room for speculation on this point - very remote IMO.
- The CTBUH measures from "sidewalk level outside the main entrance" to the highest point of the structure regardless of fuction. (this is the height to tip which is 1 of 4 different ways of measuring - IMO the most important one but the BD will stomp any other structure in all 4 measurements anyway ) The BD has 3 entrances all on different levels with the office entrance as the lowest on the concourse level. It is as "main" an entrance as the other 2 so as Cul said there should be no reason for them not to measure from there. The beacons will surely be included in this measurement but may not be in the height to architectural top measurement.
- There has been at least one article on the idea of settling between the concrete levels. I think I read something in the area of 60 cm. all together. The article goes on to hint that they compensated for this when forming up the vertical pours. I think this point could make a slightly shorter measurement a real possibility. Anywhere from 0 to 60 cm. but I think it would be on the very low end of that spread - probably zero.

It will be interesting to see what the final official measurement will be.

Another issue is when the CTBUH will do this measurement. Being Dec is surely a soft opening and the measurement is done upon completion it most likely won't be done before mid 2010. Emaar can bullshit the general public but surely not the CTBUH ? I'm hoping the work has to be 100% complete before they will do this official measurement so that we can use it as a way to know the structure is fully open for business.

I still expect some small spire or antenne from the top to increase the final heights

maybe less than 40 days and we will know

I've been expecting the same thing, a six meter flagpole or something like that.

Every year, they will add a grain of sand, glue it on vertically, just to make sure it stays the tallest.

That's a pretty slick looking chopper actually.

I've only just noticed that you can make out the window cleaners on the Burj Dubai in the above two pics -

(pano failed by the way. Most upset about that!)

Hi all.

Is it just me or do the couches in the above Armani renders above look fricken uncomfortable. No - beyond uncomfortable - downright torturous ...

Hi Imre.

I was thinking the same thing. An antenna or flagpole as Drone posted is entirely possible and it would definately be included in the height to tip measurement.

Not that the "clamp" in this shot from the top of the pinnacle is intended for what we are discussing but I wonder what it is for ?

It is not for the beacons as they are mounted with 2 inch pipe and have a set of 150 # flanges I presume to facilitate maintenance. The clamp looks like one can adjust the height of ... something ... - but what ?
