Is there really one? So many things happening there that we've lost track of what has been said and done.

The Interior Workforce

Well we are just over a month away from the "opening". They are obviously still working 24 hours a day on the hotel, Armani residence, and residence levels as the lights are on in the night shots. It seems very unlikely the luxury residence and office levels would not also be worked on 24 hours a day. The lack of lights on at night on those upper levels surely means they will not be ready for Dec. As the date gets closer and there doesn't seem to be more lights on in the upper levels it just cements what some of us have figured for a while now - Dec. 02 '09 is a soft opening.

Thanks Fury,
Ya know in looking at those new night shots and again today and seeing all those big sections of floors so dark and lifeless without even a candle burning I started thinking that at this point, especially given the economic situation, Emaar probably has a set workforce of general laborers and sub-contractors lined up to do all the interior work.

When you think about all of the standard trades and specialty trades to transform those empty concrete floors into hotel rooms, apartments and offices it makes sense that maybe they are just going to work their way up maybe 15-20 floors at a time with framing, sheetrock and mud, tile, electrical distribution and fixture installation, finishing carpenters, plumbing, HVAC guys, painters, carpet laying and baseboards, CATV wiring and outlets, installing doors and locks, telephone and data wiring...plus all the ‘smart’ building control systems, security cameras, thermostats etc. To get the army of skilled professionals to do all of that at once on something this big probably just doesn’t make sense logistically or financially.

A thought on a Monday night.

By the way it is very nice on the eye to see some GREEN in the recent photos as the landscaping starts to take shape.

Hi all.

Hi Land.

I agree wholeheartedly. They surely do have a limited number of skilled trades people. That is a good list of the different trades / work to be done by the way.

We knew Dec is going to be the new soft opening date but it would be nice to get the skinny on exactly what will be included for sure. I posted a week or 2 ago on what I think will be included - it seems to be reasonably accurate. Levels up to 50 - 70 or so should be done along with all the landscaping and perhaps the 2 annexes. Of course the observation level will be included and 2 of the 3 entrances and lobbies.

Also ... Monday ?! It isn't Friday yet !!! - Frick ....

Sway is not a problem in this building.

Of course it's not a problem, but the building will certainly sway a few metres. Just the shear height of the building would make it impossible to remain completely still, nevermind the extreme winds..

To Gerald, 243sale, Imre, and Desert Diver, can you guys get some shots detailing the overall landscaping (by that I mean the whole layout of driveways, fountains, entrances and concrete structures, etc) of BD at all three entrances? If there is anything progressing very quickly that's deserves daily documentation at this point, I'd say the landscaping is it.

Thanks in advance!

Sway is limited to circa 2.5m going by the design statements.
