Pardon my ignorance, but what is the name of the reddish-brown slab-like hotel visible to the right of the Burj Dubai in those amazing pics?

Surreal Like the Renders

All week long when looking at all these amazing photos of the nearly completed building I keep thinking that it is just so big and beautiful and the way the light plays off of it that those real photos almost don't look real...they seem like some of the early architectural renders...and PhotoShop images...not actual photographs, especially the low angle shots of only the building and the sky, and Desert Diver's distance shots from this morning. I guess that is a testament to the skill of the rendering artists and the sheer size and scale of this building in real life compared to anything else we have ever tried to get our brains around, that, plus the years of seeing bare steel and concrete makes photos of the finished building seem surreal.

I do see some people on that video. You possibly fast forward this video which is why you didn't see any people.

Great video!

Hi all.

Nice updates guys.

Gerald - that is one worth printing.
I see there is still a fair percentage of the cladding to be cleaned yet. It does look alot better once cleaned.
I have to agree with Land - this thing looks just as good as the best renders and visa-versa.

They are planting alot of greenery on the podiums now. The landscaping is not completed yet but all the plants make it look alot closer. I am still interested to find out the uses of all the little structures/buildings on the podiums - esp. the big one on podium zone A near the office annex. (in Gerald's shot above) The thing looks to be 25 to 30 feet high and has got to be at least 100 feet long.
"sigh" Answers will probably have to wait untill after the soft opening as the podiums will probably be included.

I would imagine this month we will see some press releases on the hoopla for the (soft) opening. Fireworks, lighting effects, music, and celebrities will all be involved no doubt.
The pics throughout Dec. will be the beginning of new views of the BD. The podiums, lobbies, elevators, observation level, and interiors of the hotel and residences will follow many shots of the opening festivities.

Can't wait.
