Not surprised one little bit by this. I'm only surprised that they are saying "early 2010" This building is far from being finished ... probably another year to fully complete BD's interiors and surrounding area I'm thinking.....
You don't know what the program looks like though. They could have been adding building services and start some of the finishes before the final glass panels went in. I wonder where they are now in terms of fully completed floors handed over to the client in full working order ???

That's true, of course, it's impossible to know what's really going on inside BD right now...the mind boggles to think of the pace of the work and the pressure the workers are under to get this done! But you know, I just get the gut feeling that there is still a great deal of work to be done inside this building. Obviously, I hope I'm wrong. I think the main focus of the work right now is on the Armani Hotel/Residences so that it can be absolutely perfect on opening day. Should be awesome!

Hi all.

I've been expecting more press releases about delays.
I still want to see them come clean about the fact this newly delayed date is a soft opening. They may or may not come clean about this.

I posted a while ago on the idea that we can guage when this thing is fully completed by watching for the blue man group coming and going. I never thought about how many are working right now. As Imre posted there is not 12,000 now but I do believe there was at some point.

Hi hooded.

We have pics of interiors being worked on from months ago. They have been working on the lower level interiors concurrently with the exterior for a long time now.

My list of things completed and open for business and part of the soft opening:
- Landscaping on all 3 podiums
- Pool annex
- Hotel entrance and lobby
- Residence entrance and lobby
- Observatory elevator lobby
- Armani hotel - levels 5 to 8 and 38, 39
- Armani hotel residences - levels 9 to 16
- Hotel residences - levels 19 to 37
- Observation level - level 124
Question marks:
- Some levels of the office annex
- Some or all levels of residential (some almost surely) - levels 43 to 72
- Some levels of luxury residential - levels 76 and 78 to 108
- Some levels of boutique office - levels 112 to 121, 123, 125 to 135, 139 to 154

The last 2 question marks I name because there is some lights on in the lower of those levels but they are highly questionable and would only be the lowest few levels if any at all.

As some of us have been saying for some time now - completion of the whole of the works will be well into '10 (perhaps Q3) and we may have to decipher clues to figure out when the BD is fully open for business.

yes i agree with you, because in a 'normal' city like others in the world, 'normally' new building surround by older buldings as a background...

i dont think there is a date. they did not want to disclose because few nations have already promised to beat it. so by not disclosing the final date or height, they are attempting to maintain an advantage. but it is beautiful indeed. i also have a picture from the top from which you could see the corner of the earth/world. i am not sure if it is doctored, but looks very real and i dont think it is surprising, or is it?

this is a 2009 building not a 2010. i hope emporis or CTBUH quote its completion as 2009, not 2010. jan4 is only 4 days into new year.
Externally its nearlky done and thats what counts with skyscrapers comepltion.
