While most cities build their big 'scrapers right up close to the water, Dubai's skyline starts a good mile or more away. Why is this?

Amazing pictures btw. God I wish I could visit.

Does anyone know what will be done here? Imagine a loft ...

Imre you're lucky, but you deserve it with all the pictures you posted here for us since the beginning of the Burj Dubai construction (and all the other interesting projects in Dubai).

the big elevator on the 160th floor is just for materials ,the small one has totally 6 stops , floor 1-6 but dont remember where starts exactly, from the floor 160th we went one ? (maybe 2 ? ) floor up by the steel stairs , after 6 floors with the last elevator and few meters climbing with the ledder and we reached the tier19.

Burj Dubai

Nice view from this apartment (3901) and the finishing is just amazing, the wood is really good quality.

So the worlds highest elevator goes from level 160 to section 18B - of which the floor is at 636.9 meters.

All the exterior areas like in the photo above will have wooden floors?
Unless I miss my guess that's Ipe [eepay]....a Brazilian Walnut decking that is impervious to the usual problems wood faces outdoors. We have built a dozen or so....the best wood on the planet. Starting a new one Monday.

Gotta say these last two pages of photos are extremely interesting...especially those inside the spire. Vertigo or no I'd have gone on that trip in a heartbeat. Thanks for posting the photos Imre!

Gerald....a fine angle you got on those shots...very nice. Almost like you extended the 'window of light'!

Hi Imre and Cul.

First - thanks for the bigger crop Imre.

Elevator Pega Hoist (BS4 by the plans) was built as planned.
Imre perhaps you guys climbed the stairs from level 160 to see something and then got on the elevator at its second or third stop.
It starts at level 160 - marked as BS4 in the print.
Imre is this the pega hoist or BS3 ? (I'm presuming it's the hoist as the info sign right by it has the hoist highlighted in green)

It ends at section 18B.

6 stops total:
1 - level 160
2 - level 160 mezz 1
3 - level 160 mezz 2
4 - level 160 mezz 3
5 - section 18A
6 - section 18B
So Cul starts at 611.3 - ends at 636.9 = 25.6 meters.

Imre after you got off the elevator at section 18B you had 6.4 meters to climb up to tier 19 (named roof 1). Did you climb a ladder or these steep stairs ?

Imre the plans and the elevator information you cropped show BS3 going up to level 160 as its top stop and the Pega hoist starting at level 160 as its bottom stop. Are you saying there is a third elevator on level 160 not on the list or in the plans for materials only ? If so does it go up or down from 160 ?

Thanks Imre.

Here's another shot from Imre's visit.

I presume it is from one of the 3 mezzanine levels of 160 being the steel members are fireproofed. The elevator in the shot is the pega hoist (BS4).

The reason for the notches in the outer edge of the floor (on many of the upper levels and sections) is now apparent. The cladding system needs these notches to allow for the thickness of the vertical bits.

Another question answered ... (this is one I've had for 2 years now).

THANK YOU IMRE!!! Simply amazing shots and a trip most anyone would want to take without question. Thanks for the spire and detail shots. Really helps lend some "aha's!" to how things work when seen in person.

Hi Fury,

Imre is this the pega hoist or BS3 ? (I'm presuming it's the hoist as the info sign right by it has the hoist highlighted in green)

BS3 .

6 stops total:
1 - level 160
2 - level 160 mezz 1
3 - level 160 mezz 2
4 - level 160 mezz 3
5 - section 18A
6 - section 18B

not exactly on the 160th , a little bit higher, but still the 160th as I saw the plan

Imre after you got off the elevator at section 18B you had 6.4 meters to climb up to tier 19 (named roof 1). Did you climb a ladder or these steep stairs ?

ladder, no stairs there so I had to climb

Imre the plans and the elevator information you cropped show BS3 going up to level 160 as its top stop and the Pega hoist starting at level 160 as its bottom stop. Are you saying there is a third elevator on level 160 not on the list or in the plans for materials only ? If so does it go up or down from 160 ?

sorry, I was wrong that is the BS3 ! the third elevator is not exist there , sorry for that

Dubai has little / no oil, only land/property sold to multi-nationals who want to live and do business in a Tax free environment.
