Hi Cul.

Definately a 2010. The soft opening is jan 4 '10 (if not delayed again) and the full opening will be perhaps Q3 '10 so either way the CTBUH will call it completed in 2010.

I'm interested in seeing when in '10 the CTBUH calls it completed and does their official measurement. Emaar can leave out the word "soft" in the Jan opening for the general public but surely not for the CTBUH. The official measurement is done after completion but I'm not sure if partly completed and partly opened is good enough ?

Yea - the official measurement - you know - the one that will be 824.55 meters. -

Fury....hope you are feeling better.

Imre...wow...fantastic video....a perfect progression of your photos. Your outdoor shots have been the best and then you have these....your photos of the inside rock! It must have been a great ride to 600+m, I can tell you enjoyed it!

yeah ,i just chatted to one of the head honchos at CTBUH and looks like they will take height at the lower concourse. i think they should. 824.55m is good. it will be rounded up on emporis to 825m.
yeah pity its not a 2009 project. anyway its all good.

Oil reserves in the United Arab Emirates, according to its government, are about 98 billion barrels (15.6×10^9 m3), almost as big as Kuwait's claimed reserves. Of the emirates, Abu Dhabi has most of the oil with 92 billion barrels (14.6×10^9 m3) while Dubai has 4 billion barrels (640×10^6 m3) and Sharjah has 1.5 billion barrels (240×10^6 m3). Most of the oil is in the Zakum field which is the third largest in the Middle East with an estimated 66 billion barrels (10.5×10^9 m3). The UAE produces about 2.9 million barrels per day (460×10^3 m3/d) of total oil liquids, but has stated its intention to increase this to 5 million barrels per day (790×10^3 m3/d) by 2014. The UAE's reserves-to-production is about 93 years.[1]

Got to be where the Scottish guy popped his head out of the spire lid in the YouTube vid and gibbered into the wind

But then again when the cover is closed is that another floor, and when open the roof becomes a floor.

I'm confused

Burj it's just unbelievably amazing! I can't imagine another building high like this can be build soon. It will stay the highest man-made structure for a long time, especially in the times of crisis.

These are really big news...
- Imre's Teddy got a girlfriend (of course the news of the day )
- measured BD height increased... 825m sounds better than 818m or 819m. Shouldn't the lower entrance floors be added to an overall floor number of 164 fl, too? Or do the 3 entrances belong to the same floor?

The new CTBUH-standards (maximum height counts, even to the backdoor) will surely have influence on all skyscraper lists; many other towers will also "grow" a few meters. So updating the thread titles will be an extra mod job on the forum for a while.
