The B&W film plates you make, you can develop yourself in your own dark room.
There might be a portable color lab available for purchase too.

Your Canon 5D MKII is very good, until you get this big camera.

Such old style photography has something very charming. Personally i'm not a (good) action photographer, most of my shots are with tripod and preparation. I started photography with DSLRs but i imagine it killed some of the feel of older techniques. And if every failed expose sets you back 40$ you will frame and meter with exquisite care
