First of all I have to mention that as an atheist and humanist I am disgusted by Arab culture, and the "human foundation" upon which the Burj as well as all Dubai stands on. On the other hand I have to give respect to what this little city state has been able to achieve in such a short time irrelevant of my mixed feelings over the "real" cost of this progress.

Not only is the Burj the tallest building in the world but in my opinion the most beautiful sky scraper ever built. Beautiful proportions, beautiful architecture, and beautiful layout. I think the designers have achieved perfection from all perspectives.

Fabulous job to everyone involved, and I hope that by Dubai becoming an international city, over time, its culture will soon evolve into the twenty first century as well. They have a physically twenty first century city, and it's time for their culture to follow suit so that their culture can shine as beautifully as their city.

I mean to offend no one, but I know I'm not wrong in my sentiment.

Can anyone tell me what that huge building is past the power lines? Looks like an airport, almost. But there's no runway as far as I can tell. Probably more like a huge hotel/convention center?

You sound like an Emirati,,,

Arab Culture,, Which Arab Culture, So many...
Do you mean Emirati Culture? Saudi Culture, Eygptian Culture, Yemeni Culture, Palestine Culture, they all differ completely..

The human foundation is terrible in all countries, for years we have been importing goods from countries that have a terrible human rights record.

Take the UK for example,, we now have everything made in other countries as people would not work for the wage of an asian sweat shop worker. For example, We had jobs from India BT call center(British Telecom) coming back to the UK, but people were in uproar, no way will I work those hours.

As in the words of the slack master, PULL THE WOOL OVER YOUR OWN EYES...

NOPE your honor, isorry to disagree, it was in dubai. i was there on that period ...it wasnt due to fog but due to heavy rain like 3 days... it was over 500 cars...

all the big malls and buildings got thier pales and basins to catch water leaks s well.. it was the time that owners/architects got serious with the curtainwall and roof in dubai. it was also the time if im not mistaken, they are tryied to adopt drainage system on their highways which they never had...

it was on the papers...

dubai has fog? like in London (caused by cold weather) or LA (caused by automobile exhaust gases)?
Deserts usually do not have fog, do they?

Fog isn't caused by cold weather per se.

Fog is caused when air containing moisture is cooled to its dewpoint. In Dubai's case, fog is typically caused by air near the ground being cooled by the falling rain.

Good question Fury .... I guess if you don't know, then who does??

How visible is it from the ground do you think? Could it be a continuation of the 'stripes' that the mechanical floors give the building? I know it is only glass, and only one floor, but with reflective glass, and the right lights shone on it, could it look like a final stripe?

Fantastic photographic and technical updates guys. Thank you.
