The BD and surroundings look fantastic, from these photos.
A great achievement.
I hope they will continue Metro and Tram, and water taxi and Dubai land and nuclear power plants.
All these great projects may seem like wasteful in the beginning. But, eventually they will prove their worth.
I can't wait for the soft opening.

Hi all.

Hi Spandex.
Your post cracked me up

PS: Hope you're feeling much better thesedays.
Hi PG.
Thanks - feeling better. Yes it's coming along - last few weeks of light duty at work.
It would be cool if it is an upper deck. I too would take the 2 elevators and climb the steep stairs to check it out. I don't think most people would and I still don't think it is an OD. The glazing has a different color or outer coating (or lack of an outer coating). It is not clearer per se as Imre's shots from tier 19 show all the glazing to be clear to see out of.

Hi Pablo.
Now there is another good thought. As I was saying to PG it is not clearer than the rest but your thought may be a good reason to not put an outer coating on. Some sort of lighting effect is a very likely reason for the row of differently glazed cladding.

Thanks for the discussion all.

Well - soft opening is a few short weeks away. To the guys in Dubai - have you seen any advertising of any hoopla ? Any word of any streets scheduled to close for the day/evening. Any fireworks, live bands, etc. ?

Nope... only recognisable matter to me are the activities at the Lower Ground Food Court of Dubai Mall where the entrance to "At the Top" will be. The day before yesterday they opened one half of the cardboard wall revealing some sort of gift shop. Or maybe it is the ticket counter. They have set up a huge BD model with blue lighting from the inside and were putting a few finishing touches to parts of this shop / ticket office. That day I unfortunately did not have my camera with me and yesterday they had already covered the entrance with paper blocking the view.

Hence, I think the observation deck could well be ready by January 4th

But too short - perhaps one at around 30x would be a good compromise?

Definition of slavery: thralldom, enthrallment. Slavery, bondage, servitude refer to involuntary subjection to another or others. Slavery emphasizes the idea of complete ownership and control by a master

The construction workers in Dubai came there of their own free will in search of higher paying jobs than the ones offered in their own country. They are not the property of the construction companies are the Emirate of Dubai, because once their passport has expired, they *must* return to their home country. They aren't physically mistreated. I've never heard of a single beating or even murder. Some have died in accidents, but that is the nature of the construction business. These people are sending money back home to finance their family, not something you can do if you're paid slave wages. Most slaves don't even get wages, they just work without pay. These workers get really, really good pay compared to the meager wages they find in their home countries. In short, by no definition are they slaves. Use a dictionary.
