Especially thanks for the last pic: Burj Dubai flanked by the often overlooked Churchill Towers.
Churchill Residency, the taller one, has now received a little spire (though smaller than I've expected). Maybe it's topped out now. Wikipedia tells about a final height of 245m and 59 floors.

probably not an elevator -

This would be looking up the north-west wing , as the elevators are on the north. Looking up the wing, we see a door that looks like an elevator, but I see it as a fire or security door - the corridor continues beyond.

This may well be a very low level - ground floor or concourse. Not the lobby, as the ceiling is too low for that.

Comments ?

Thank you

On another note here is a shot from m_Foto on Flickr from 09 12 07.

He calls the shot "from the Armani hotel level"
What that means exactly is open to debate but I think this may be part of the hotel lobby. It could be one of levels 5 to 8 as they are part of the Armani hotel levels but I'm not seeing doors to guestrooms in the hall. They could be further down the hallway though.

That's from one of the hotel floor, on the right 2 of the 4 elevators.
On the left, the corridor of wing A, with a smoke release door.
You can't see guestrooms doors because they are starting after the smoke door

Hi all.

There has been some international press regarding new fire regulations for high rises.

I wonder, if BD has any special features to combat potential fires on higher floors?
Hi Moscow.
I don't have alot of info on that.
I did read there will be an elevator for use when there is a fire - a big one.
Also there is safe areas that are pressurized with fresh air to keep smoke out.
Perhaps isicman or Library (or others) have more info.

Hi Pablo.
I wish I could tell you your prize is an all inclusive trip to Dubai for an unlimited site visit to the Burj Dubai including a no time limit venture to the platform at the top of the pinnacle.
No wait - I would have taken that myself ...

Hi guys.
This forum is great - so many questions - so many answers.
Thanks for the info. I first thought the corridor continued after the door on the left - then I started thinking it may be an elevator with a shiny (almost mirror) back wall and what looked like the corridor continuing was actually a reflection.
Now I know.

Great update Imre and nice find Taufiq.

Nice find on the lego model Helghast. I have pics of 8 different models made from lego now. This (like some others I have pics of) looks to be made from specially made pieces. Unlike the others though, this one almost looks like it can be bought as a kit. That would be cool.

Absolutely.
On so many levels.

I see in Imre's update from today there is still some glazing to be done up high. I am really expecting it to be completed before soft opening in 16 days. I guess the general public won't even notice - but we sure will ...

Only 16 days untill the big party.
I am expecting to hear about some major plans for it in the next week to 10 days.
I would still like Emaar to issue a press release that says Jan 4 2010 is a soft opening and list what will be open for business. I would like this partly because I am concerned about knowing when the structure is fully completed and open for business. If they would let us know about the soft opening then they would also let us know about the full opening.
My reasons are somewhat selfish as all my construction shots are in (many layers of nested folders within) a construction folder and I want to know officially when to start a completed folder.

Alas - the switch to completed will most likely have to be an educated guess unless I choose to start it after soft opening knowing the project is not fully completed.

Perhaps forummers like isicman will be able to help in this regard.

Lastly I just want Henrik and Altin to know I still haven't given up on getting ahold of those early piling shots Henrik has.
All 1000 of them dag namit ...
c'mon it's christmas ...

11-hectare park unveiled at Burj Dubai site

An 11-hectare park surrounding the Burj Dubai has been unveiled by the developer of the world’s tallest building.

Emaar said the Burj Dubai had a "heart of green" as it announced The Park, which has six water features, gardens, palm lined walkways and flowering trees.

Plants and shrubbery will be watered by the tower's condensation collection system, a green initiative that uses water from the cooling system.

This system will provide 15 million gallons of water a year – enough to fill 20 Olympic-size swimming pools, Emaar said.

“The design of The Park is also inspired by the core design concepts of Burj Dubai, based on the symmetries of the desert flower, Hymenocalis, and regional motifs,” said Mohamed Alabbar, chairman, Emaar Properties.

At the centre of The Park and the base of the Burj Dubai is the ‘water room’ – a series of pools and water jets. Railing, benches and signs will incorporate images of the Burj Dubai and the Hymenocalis flower on which the tower's design was based.

Burj Dubai is set to officially open on January 4.

Very Dangerous pics

Samsung built it for Emaar based on the design of American Architects.
They have built many other skyscrapers too.

The workers in dangerous jobs are well tethered to the structures. They are not afraid. So far there has been no fatalities. That is very good safety record.
