Maybe because its about 600 meters high

Nice to see the progress on steel and progress on the cladding of mechanical floors!

It is a cool pic, but in some way it encourages my thought that Dubai is still one big Ghost City. Maybe the empty road?

One point of concern: Isn't Dubai located along the earthquake prone region on the fringe of Arabian plate?

Burj Dubai is nonetheless fabulous, though. Now the tower is taller than KVLY mast, in North Dakota. I am impressed.

Dubai is by no means a ghost city--- It is a vibrant city with large population. You may search for threads on Dubai in this forum, there are many of them available to show Dubai is one of the most rapidly growing city in the world.

When I look at that steel structure starting to appear above the top of the concrete tower, it makes me think that a tower of that height is being proposed for Liverpool and would be by far the tallest building in the city and opposed by many for being too tall.

However, in Dubai, they are building that on top of what is already the tallest man-made structure in the world. Is it possible that in only a few years, the Burj will itself be dwarfed by another tower built nearby?

You talk about Shanghai Tower in Liverpool? At least it will be about 1/3 of the floors of Burj Dubai and I would have a perfect view on it from my building in Marybone !!!

Aren't wider avenues necessary for buildings this tall?

Yes, that's Dubai's central road corridor.
