How did you do this? Single photo or many photos stitched together?

Can you imagine, what would have been Dubai like, if this creek was full of fresh water, teeming with fish and crocodiles and mermaids and sport fishermen and swimmers were frolicking in it ?

Hi all.

Merry xmas all !!

Great to see preparations are underway for the big party. I was getting a little worried there may be yet another delay.
I won't be calling this project completed Jan 4 and I hope we get some credible info on when it actually is.
With Bigger&Better who has a flat (as he puts it) on level 21 saying handover is now Feb '10 we may have this one indicator anyway - I hope to get more.

Here is a repost of what I think may be part of the soft opening:
- The landscaping including the fountain in front of the office entrance, any other water features, and the tennis courts.
- The cladding.
- The pool annex.
- Some or all of the office annex.
- The lobbies for the hotel, the residences, offices, and the observation elevators.
- The Armani hotel.
- The Armani hotel residences.
- The hotel residences.
- Some of the lower or even all of the residences.
- Some of the lower luxury residences.
- Some of the office space.
- The observation level.
- Some if not all of the assorted restaurants, clubs, and spa at various levels.
- Some of the upper steel and spire areas cleaned up. (scaffolding, etc. removed)
- The exterior lighting and festival lighting for the entire structure.
- Most or all of the elevators and escalators.
Some concrete confirmation would be a good thing ...

Hi Moscow.
Crocodiles and mermaids huh ...

I just cannot imagine 90 million man hours for just one building!
That is about 10817 men working on the job for 4 years.
Today, they have over 14000 workers.

Yes, from Switzerland , 2 friends here in Dubai and they brought me this new Teddy.

First couple days they spend in the Rose Rayhaan by Rotana Hotel but after they are going to the Address Hotel, they got a very good room there , I will visit them next week again

They are a big SSC funs , one of them checking the forum every day and he has been following the construction of the Burj Dubai since 2005.

nice picture. gives a perspective of the whole area.
Are those bodies of water (looks like inland lakes) in the photo (other than the Dubai fountain) , salty or fresh water?
When sea water percolate through ground, the water usually lose its salt content. So, I wonder if these are fresh water lakes.

On the otherhand, these could be artificial lakes filled with desalinated water, like the Dubai fountain.

I am curious.

No, ground water. I haven't tested them so I can't say if saulty or not, however those canals are to be joined with the Dubai Creek which has sea water and later on extended to the sea on the other side, turning a big chunk of Dubai into a island.
