Why so little water front?

Seeing a picture of the Burj from the ocean, I can't help to asky; why is the development so far from the sea?
Wouldn't it be alot cooler if the Burj was right at the beach?

No ... that would have meant huge compensation costs, plus it would interfere with the air traffic

Well the Burj Al Arab hotel is already literally in the sea, so another building by the sea would ruin the uniqueness of Burj Al Arab. Besides the air traffic in the area a lot of people won't be able to go to the beach cause of the long shadow. lol

I think the location now is perfect and gives the city more density.

Wow, this building's size is beyond imagination. I wonder when its record title will break.

Awesome shots guys! Can't imagine the frenzy of the worldwide media, not to mention the great many public spectators on Jan 4th around Burj Dubai all clicking away. Should be one hell of a fantastic show though!

Hope Emaar don't pull a Nakheel after the ceremony and realise they actually just bankrupted themselves!

Emaar isn't going anywhere for now and it wont go bankrupt, neither did Nakheel. Nakheel has to pay debt. Because they have many assets and not to mention help from Abu Dhabi they won't go bankrupt.

Emaar on the other hand has 87.71 million worth of shares in real estate in trading and it's stock ended at Dh3.96, 5.60 per cent higher than a few days ago.

Things are tough now, but nobody even mentioned anything about bankruptcy. Look at GM, still alive after it was pronounced dead last year. lol

Only the name GM is alive. Original Company GM died.

Emaar owes more than its assets. It lost money in its reckless overseas adventures.
