It's already dark when opening starts, so you won't see the dirt anyway.

I'm afraid I'm going to miss the opening. It's a good thing you can watch it on satellite, but got school at that moment.

What with?

Like the Metro no one rode the train except VIP, the BD will be the same for a few days and then even restricted access.

This is only a detail of your outstanding documentation of a building making history, but thanks for clarification... beacons don't have to be round shaped of course.

It looks like only 2 of the three main entrances have a finished landscaping, the third entrance still looks like a big construction site.

Is that black thing on the island in the lake something like a stage for the ceremony?

@Imre
Do you feel the shaking of the tower when you are inside the spire climbing the small ladder? What actually makes it so hard to climb up there?

Thanks very much Imre for all your hard work and especially the latest documentation. Stunning video and photos!

For those of us here in the US, I wonder if there'll be any way we can watch the opening live (though I'm sure it'll make it onto Youtube after).

Gerald and Desert Diver, you guys planning to record with your 5DIIs? For an event on this scale I honestly still don't know whether I'd just record video or focus on photos

If you film it in HD with all those fancy expensive cameras you guys have, it's much better than taking pictures.

You can take screenshots of you HD movie, and then you still have HQ pictures. So it's better to film the whole inauguration and to take snapshots of it afterwards.

Or you bring two cameras each: one for filming on a tripod, a second one for photos.

Hi all.

Hi OTR.
Fricken awesome dude - and the lights tier 22 aren't on.
This thing is a new wonder of the world - no doubt.

Hi Hightech.
I guess since the 4th is the inauguration and the only part that will be open on the 5th is the OD there is no need for any of the 3 entrances to be ready untill Feb. and March. The entrance for the public to the OD is in the mall.

Hi Imre.
I see the ladder configuration inside the pinnacle is revised from the prints I have (like many things ...). I see there are 2 ladders for some of the height and it looks like there is a long run right to the top. The prints I have show ladder sections from tier to tier platforms face 120 degrees different than the previous.
Are the ladders a long continuous run right to the top ?
Also you were harnessed with a lanyard to a one way slider in the middle track right ? (a slider that will only slide up and locks when you try to push it down - so you can't fall very far) Not to say that short fall wouldn't hurt like f*** ...

With Helghasts find of pinnacle shots from Dec 9 and Imre's new pinnacle shots I am still quite surprised at all the clutter on all the internal platforms and even the top platform. Also Imre's shots from the steel sections showed scaffolding and clutter as well.
Definately much clean up to be done up high in the structure - no panic as completion of the whole of the works is at least 6 months from March 2010. I say at least because Emaar's press release says handover of the upper 4 areas starting in March could take 2 to 6 months and we are used to the dates being optomistic (to put it nicely). The public won't be up there anyway so I guess it could stay messy forever but I would expect it to be spotless at some point.

Also just to clear up any confusion with naming convention:
- The pinnacle is tiers 27 to 30
- The pinnacle pipe continues down through the spire and into the steel tiers to section 20B
- The spire is tiers 22 to 26
- The steel tiers are 16 to 21 (obviously above tier 15 is all steel but I'm just pointing out naming convention here)

boooooooner time!

Imre, this is a moment I have been waiting for for years, you getting in and all the way up. How much time did you get to spend there?? I am hoping you managed to get some nice update photos for all the other interesting projects that can be seen from up there (that could allmost include the freedome tower in NY haha)

Cant wait like all the others to see what you guys (otr imre gerald desert altin etc etc) will hopefully bring on here after the opening party.

OTR: stunning visuals in that last pic, this show will top everything I would guess (though the megashow for the atlantis was a tad over the top and probably not top-able due to the palm's firework display)

thanx all for last year and cant wait to get your updates throughout 2010
