With the name change of the tower they have now to change the name of the metro station aswell as the district into "Burj Khalifa Station" and "Burj Khalifa Downtown". I think Burj Dubai was a better name, since it had the name of the city in it. Now Dubai has 2 icons the Burj al Arab and Burj Khalifa without any relation to its location.

Very nice to see it finished. Another mile stone.
Is it likely that an even taller building will be completed in Dubai in, lets say, the next 10 years?

That was an impressive show of fireworks, I must say! Are they going to keep the moving lighting going to the top the Burj? Probably not, but that would be sweet!

World's tallest skyscraper opens in Dubai

Dubai has opened the world's tallest skycraper, renaming it the Burj Khalifa in honour of the man who bailed the financially troubled Gulf city-state out of its debts.

Surprising those gathered on Monday evening for an opening ceremony lit up by fireworks, the Burj Dubai, whose height was officially given as 828 metres or 2717 feet, became the Burj Khalifa - or Khalifa Tower.
Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahyan is the ruler of the neighbouring emirate of Abu Dhabi, and president of the United Arab Emirates. He and his brothers personally intervened last month to lend Dubai £6 billion to pay off the pressing debts of one of Dubai's biggest state-owned companies. [continue reading on link above]

Great unveil.

To me it will always be the Burj Dubai even if they call it the Blue Tall Stick.

interesting, it might be a major media blunder. After all "khalifa" is "follower/ descendant" in Arabic and there are many people named khalifa. How do we know whom it honors?

Dislike the name change, even though the guy bailed out Dubai...

I wonder how much extra it will cost and how longer it will take to rebrand the tower, the website, the little architectural features, literature associated with it etc etc
