I tried to accept the name change but I couldn't
I feel that Burj Dubai which we watched it growing day by day in our city has taken from us and given to a person
my friends and majority of Dubai citizens feel the same
Burj Zayed would sound million times better than the current one

Too late changing name to Burj Khalifa. And it doesn't even fit to the building. Burj Dubai will always be the acceptable name for the rest of the world. Plus, why changing the name in the last minute with a name that I don't understand? Are they trying to save the name for the person who saved their debt? I don't get it. If they want to make this building popular, start it with a decent name, will ya? I don't mean to insult the name but in a Western mind, it feels like no importance at all. Oh well, let's just call it Burj Dubai.

First off congrats to everyone for our new tallest structure It was a real pleasure to see the Burj rise up every day in fron of our eyes. That leads me to the thanks to all who have been providing us with not only daily but up-to-the-minute updates with everything important about the Burj Thanks guys and gals =)
The name change is unfortunate IMHO but at least this crop of skyscraper lovers and in fact all people who know about the tower will most likely continue to call it Burj Dubai. For example there are quite a few streets with new names in my town, but everyone continue to use their old names, not because the new ones are bad, just because everyone knows them by the old names. Maybe the next generations will start using the new names... On the other hand, all the souvenir stuff that's branded Burj Dubai will now become even more sought after and rarer for collectors. So buy now if you can I know I can't

Have been a lurker on these boards for a good few years and have kept up with this project from enabling/piling to the final (and spectacular) opening and now seems a fitting time to jump in and say thanks to all those that have contributed photos of the build over the years...

/heck of a sycophantic first post I know but hey...

it's funny, the Empire State Building was also built in tough times, both magnificent towers.

Someone told me they took a taxi today and asked to go to Burj Khalifa but the driver did not know what he was talking about so he had to ask for Burj Dubai.

First I read: Burj California.

Anyway, great height.
