Probably the last one which will be done at the Downtown Burj Dubai (Khalifa).

I tell ya, the guys at RTA will be pissed off by the 'Khalifa' name change. Not only is the 'Burj Dubai Station' incorrectly named, every sign in each of the other 46 stations + every sign in each of the 87 trains will have to be amended. Wouldn't like to be Mr. RTA

Changing all names not a big issue , half day oil income (or less) from Abu Dhabi is enough for everything

I got an email from a South American newspaper , they asked pics of these areas:

143rd floor - disco
158th floor - mosque

I have never heard about of this , any info?

Hi all.

Hi Imre.
I think their info is incorrect ...
Have a look at the prints. Levels 143 and 158 are there.
Of course they could have been revised ... doubt it though - for a disco on the office levels or a mosque on the MEP levels.

As the release from the CTBUH says..."The Burj Dubai has officially completed as the World’s Tallest Building. Announced by owner –developer Emaar at a height of 828 meters (2,717 feet), this height has still to be ratified by CTBUH upon receipt of official architectural drawings. The building’s official name has also changed to Burj Khalifa…"

So I guess there are a few possibilities, either:
- Emaar made some small changes to the existing plans which added a small amount of extra height at some point on the tower, which we weren't aware off, and it actually is 828m.
- On receipt of the official plans the CTBUH will tell Emaar they that building should indeed be listed at 824.6m, which would be pretty embarrasing for Emaar after annoucing the different height in such an extravagent manner.
Hi Oriolus.

On your first possibility:
- I find it a little too coincidental that level B1 just below the concourse is 4.0 meters high. That could be the extra 4 meters that Emaar is adding but I can't see the CTBUH agreeing with that for 3 reasons.
1 - There is no open-air pedestrian entrance.
2 - The new criteria for measuring states basement levels won't be counted as their entrances are not considered significant.
3 - The CTBUH does state they are measuring from the lowest entrance (the office entrance) which is on the concourse level. They also state this adds 10 meters when in fact it only adds 6.
- I find it hard to believe some level or tier is constructed 4 meters taller than the plans. I did painstaking pic to plan comparisons from bottom to top and the level and tier heights match perfectly - I can post them again if needed or they are on burjdubaiskyscraper.com on the facts page. That leaves the possibility of many levels that are built a cm. or 2 higher than the plans which is possible I guess.

On your second possibility:
- I think this may be the case. Emaar could have included level B1 and the CTBUH will say no to including it.
- As for the 0.6 that the beacons add, the drawings could show that the difference between the height to arch. top and height to tip is 2.0. If the railing around the top platform is indeed an extension of tier 30's pipe and the platform with the hatch is the top of tier 30 (and therefore the architectural top) then the extension and beacons would be 2.0 meters high. I am still questioning this point as the 1.2 m. dia. pipe that is tier 30 would have been 21.3 m. high when the other planned top platform was to be attached. We should therefore see the welding for the said extension. The pipe could have come to the site longer and when they revised the plan to the current top platform the could have simply cut it longer.
I do hope this point is 2.0 and not only 0.6 but it is another issue to be resolved.

As I posted yesterday I hope the details of these issues are released along with the official article by the CTBUH.
Another thing that bothers me is the fact the CTBUH doesn't measure every time and especially this time. I mean I guess the architectural drawings will be made by some firm whose ass is on the line but they could be inaccurate for some reason.
I am waiting for the news. I have revised my Burj plan 4 times now with the last being the final construction version. I have been waiting for the official height to make an official completed version. Every level elevation will change from the construction plans because of the starting point the CTBUH uses.

I will not be a happy camper if I am left wondering where the extra 4 meters is supposed to go (if that is officially the case).
I hope Emaar and/or the CTBUH is listening !!!

There are a lot more eyesores than the "PLAZAS" being unclad in the Downtown area.

The rubbish tips still continue.

Ok so this isn't really related to the burj but isn't it funny that there are a couple buildings u/c that are 600-675m tall, but not one building tops out in the 700m range? And then the burj crowns it al off at 828m

Not really sure what to do now, and if truth be told, I'm a little disappointed because I'm told the view is amazing.

Anyone else taken their wife or girlfriend up the Khalifa yet? Reckon it's worth the discomfort?

There are so many unintended? sexual innuendos there i had to laugh at this one

I believe all those u/c buildings will be completed some time in the future. The holes in the ground may be filled with sand and made into a green area.
just an idle speculation.
