Emaar 'finalising' Burj Khalifa rebranding

Emaar Properties is still finalising the rebranding process of the Burj Khalifa and will shortly announce whether there will be a new name for the Downtown Burj Dubai area, the developer told Arabian Business on Tuesday.

"Emaar Properties is currently finalising the rebranding and details will be announced in due course," an Emaar Properties spokesperson said when asked about specifics of the rebranding process and the renaming of the surrounding area.

The official inauguration of the 828 metre tower took place on January 4, during which Dubai’s ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum unveiled a plaque announcing that the tower – previously known as Burj Dubai – was to be officially named Burj Khalifa.

Sheikh Mohammed said in an interview after the ceremony that his decision to change the tower’s name was to highlight the unity of the federation.

“Sheikh Khalifa is one of the UAE’s symbols,” said Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, chairman of Dubai’s Supreme Fiscal Committee and an uncle of Dubai’s ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

The $1.5bn tower began construction in 2004 and is said to be around 90 percent sold.

The tower’s observation deck on floor 124 opened to the public on January 5, while the first residential units are due to be handed over to residents in February.

"At the Top, the world’s highest outdoor observation deck at Level 124 of Burj Khalifa, has attracted thousands of visitors since it opened to the public on January 5, 2010," an Emaar Properties spokesperson said.

The naming of the world's tallest building after President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan was a great gesture.

This act by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, during the spectacular opening ceremony on January 4 can only be described as blessed.

It stands as a grand testimony to the deep brotherly feelings between the two great leaders, made stronger by the ties of blood between them.

This reminds me of the poem I addressed to Shaikh Mohammad on the occasion of his third accession anniversary in January 2009.

In it, I said to Shaikh Mohammad: "You are to Zayed and his sons kindred in roots and legacy."

In fact, I do not want to talk here about Burj Khalifa as a marvellous engineering masterpiece, an iconic building or a great achievement that draws the attention of people from all over the world. This is because such talk is on everyone's lips wherever we go.

Still not clear the Downtown.

Strategically located in proximity to the Burj Khalifa Boulevard that encircles the magnificent Burj Khalifa district, 8 Boulevard Walk claims its place at the nerve centre of a buzzing new Downtown Dubai (Burj Khalifa Downtown) – Where nothing is less than awe-inspiring.

About the Lake:

South Ridge is a 6 Tower development on the Burj Khalifa Masterplan. From your unique location overlooking the vibrant urban landscape of Burj Khalifa, you enjoy breathtaking vistas across The Old Town and The Burj Lake.

I would imagine, standing on top of the spire would be dangerous when lightning strikes.

In other parts of the tower, it won't be aproblem. Because the energy will be carried down to the ground by the steel rods in the concrete.

I wonder about the lights on top of the spire, though.

With all the rebranding going on, I am starting to get worried for "Dubai".

I don't want to wake up tomorrow and find out the city has been renamed to "Khalifa".

Although that would be a nightmare, I highly doubt they would change the name of the city.

Why didn't Dubai get all the oil/gas reserves? At least it is willing to invest megastyle unlike Abu Dhabi.
