There is no charge for entry to the Burj al Arab if you have a confirmed restaurant booking (unless the policy has changed since I last visited a few months back).

Something is missing from this picture of the Burj Khalifa.

See if you can work out what it is...

No, no, and no.

The answer is cranes, and indeed any evidence of ongoing construction whatsoever.

Don't think I've ever seen an un'shopped full height picture of the Burj before without those elements.

View of Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Beach Residence from Palm Jumeirah.

Burj Khalifa, the tallest man-made structure ever built.

BTW, what elevators have Petronas Towers and Taipei101 (both build by Samsung)?
IIRC, Taipei 101 has Toshiba elevators which were the fastest elevators back then. If that's right, I guess the record still stands.

Remember of course that that's the price to take anyone up the Khalifa, not just your wife. Compared to other options for such an experience in Dubai, it's a veritable bargain.
You are right actually, I was mixing up the two types. I'm not sure if it is a bargain, as Tom has noted, in other parts of the world at similar height you get a much more exciting view for considerably less.

I know, I was making up rumours. Don't feel bad... Of course we know how painful it will be lose grip for the superglue + it will then be hard work for the cleaners to get it off any windows that where the climbing happens.

Does anyone have super close-up shots of BK's cladding handy? I know Imre has taken some in the past, but it would take me hours to find them.

The reason I ask is it would be interesting to look at the cladding and speculate on how Alain Robert would climb BK. From what I have seen, he uses chalk on his bare hands and rubbery climbing shoes on his feet. That's it -- no ropes, no suction cups, no magnets, no glue, no spikes, no hooks, nothing. Looks like he can cram his fingers into small crevices, even vertical crevices, and he can manage to grip 90 degree vertical corners or press his feet against two parallel vertical objects for support.

I suspect BK will be easy for him since there are so many terraces that he can use to take a rest if needed. I hope all cladding parts are securely attached. It would be terrible if he fell because a strip of metal came off or such, and that would be terrible for BK's image. The man doesn't look to weigh much, which I'm sure helps keep things from breaking. I'm afraid I would exceed the maximum load of some buildings.
