Dubai: The world's tallest building — the Burj Khalifa — has been sculpted from a toothpick.

The miniature replica of was created by Steven J. Backman, a San Francisco native who has been designing sculptures from toothpicks since he was a child.

Backman said: "The miniature replica I created of Burj Khalifa took me seven hours to create and a bucket of patience. As far as I know, it is the world's smallest replica of the world's tallest building."

Backman has also replicated New York's Empire State Building and a 13-foot long version of the Golden Gate Bridge.

Some of Backman's other works — including the Eiffel Tower and the Brooklyn Bridge can be viewed at www.dubaicityguide.com.

Emirates Palace was operated by the luxury hotel group Kempinski Hotels & Resorts. The world's most expensive
hotel was built and is owned by the Abu Dhabi government. The city, which is the United Arab Emirates' capital makes a great impression on the Middle East corporate tourism being the biggest rival of Dubai. The 3 billion $ cost hotel was opened in 2005 and is a colossal standstone itself.

The seven star hotel shows the beauty of Arabian culture. Traditional decor is used inside mostly in silver, gold, marble and glass mosaics. The chandeliers are made of Swarovski crystal. There are 114 domes (including the Grand Atrium which is higher than the dome of St.Peter's Basilica in Rome), 200 fountains, the luxurious and technologically advanced Conference Centre, The marvellous Blue Salon and so on. The simplest suite is called Palace Suite. Each of them contains at least three rooms and a 61" plasma screen.

Went there the summer of last year

My grandmother and I were privileged enough to have went up and had lunch inside the Burj and it was an amazing experience. The food was awesome and we just couldn't resist riding the elevators to check out the other areas.

I'm glad it's now complete and doing well.

@moscowboy,

you can use the multiquote button. It's easier to do it all in one post. Now everyone is looking at three of your quotes in a row.

Pic here of 'At The Top' store at Dubai Mall. Can't be absolutely sure, but those golden replicas appear to show Burj Dubai?? Which makes me wonder if all the souvenirs with Burj Dubai logo on them (replica models, t-shirts, water, etc) have been sold by now? And are they now stocking everything with Burj Khalifa? Surely there still can't be anything left with Burj Dubai on it? I'd be absolutely astonished to hear that they still have BD souvenirs to be honest..

Sorry, I have no idea how much those replicas cost, but I'm sure some of the guys on here who have been at this store or 'At The Top' should know and will let you know.

The merchandising as I said a few days back is very poor.

If you take the paper label off that says "at the top" it could be bought from anywhere.

Who wants a Burj Khalifa pencil case, perfume bottle, etc etc,and it doesnt even have the words Burj Khalifa or Burj Dubai on the item.

When I was there yesterday all items that had a little bit of resemblance to the tower had BD, trhere are no BK products on sale yet.

I am sure if you go to the Burj shop the price is more then double or triple or even more.

Anyway, if I open the skyscrapercity.com , I have to log in , need the username and password every time.

Do you have the same problem or just someone wants to hack my account ?
