This is great! This is like having a contest between which Petronas Tower looks better.

If he does climb, will he go all the way to the top of the spire? That seems absolutely impossible unless the fins below are short enough and close enough to each other, which I doubt. Fury, do you know their size and spacing (horizontal and vertical)?

@ Swiddle. I believe Alain has already stated that he will climb Burj Khalifa to the highest floor.

But as you say, it depends on the spacing/distance between the fins. I'm wondering though if climbing the spire is actually humanly possible at all??

Hi Swiddle.

I do.

The fins are 2.135 m. high and are spaced 1.065 m. vertically.
Each faces 30 degrees differently than the last and next.
So the horizontal spacing is as follows - in meters:
- tier 27 - 2.1 m. dia. = .55
- tier 28 - 1.5 m. dia. = .39
- tier 29 - 1.35 m. dia. = .35
- tier 30 - 1.2 m. dia. = .31

The holes for access to the bolts holding the fin on are 50 mm in dia.
Without the holes I would say no way he could climb the pinnacle but with them I guess it is possible. I just couldn't even imagine trying to scale the fins. The fins may even be easier to gain hand and foot holds than the cladding though.

The climb would be a monumental undertaking that would surely require rest stops - even for spidey. It will definately be watched by people holding their breaths.

So for the rest stops he will be resting on the balconies that protrude from the BK? I still find it impossible to believe that he will climb this. They would have to install a giant trampoline/safe net at the base in case he falls.

When I was there yesterday all items that had a little bit of resemblance to the tower had BD, trhere are no BK products on sale yet.
I personally will NEVER call it the Burj Khalifa, it will ALWAYS be the Burj Dubai to me.

Nanotubes are real technology and they plan to make space elevators with it. No it's not sci-fi, this technology is already being tested on small scale and space elevators are seriously being researched.

So the nanotube part was actually not that funny...

Hi Fury

Please remind me, those metal parts in the below quoted photo (Swiddie) for what reason are they there? If someone needs to climb up there uses the interior stairs, like Imre in the previous pages ago, so probably there are not stairs... thanks

Burj Khalifa 23.01.2010

Here are a few snapshots I took with my camera today. I would have gotten closer but unfortunately had work. I would like to apologize in advance for the poor quality. I used a sony digital camera. Not at all recommended for taking pictures from a distance. I am no Imre, but hope they are ok.
