Most assuredly.

People referring to it as the BK is cringe-inducing. No thanks, I don't want a whopper with cheese.

"Taking your girlfriend up the Burj Khalifa" has a much better ring to it than "Taking your girlfriend up the Burj Dubai" though.

I've actually become accustomed to the new name.

Hi, I'm a new user from France. I'm interested by this forum for 5 years and I like to see how Architecture has involved. But the new name of Burj Dubai is not really a shame. It is called like that in name of the financial aid from Abu Dhabi's leader.

But I prefer the older name.

Interesting they mention 8 stages. Watching it happening it looked like 7. In the timetable I made at the time stage 2 was only 1 day after stage 1 and was 25 meters - I guess it was done in 2 stages on the same day.
I'll have to revise ...

Burj Khalifa readies to welcome first residents

http://www.dubaichronicle.com/news/b...esidents-21804

Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building developed by Emaar Properties, is readying to welcome its first residents with the orientation programme for home-owners of Armani Residences, located on levels 9 to 16 of the tower, currently ongoing.

The interiors of the world-class and first of its kind Armani Residences is in the final stages, and finishing work of The Residences in Burj Khalifa is progressing at a fast pace.

The hand-over of homes begins first with the Armani Residences comprising 144 private apartments personally designed by Giorgio Armani. This will be followed by the much-awaited Armani Hotel Dubai, which occupies the concourse to Level 8 and Levels 38 & 39.

The Residences, comprising 900 apartments, and The Corporate Suites, a collection of high-end offices, will be handed over to customers starting March. The handover programme can take anywhere from two to six months.

Mr Ahmad Al Matrooshi, Managing Director – UAE, Emaar Properties, said: “With Emaar taking charge of the tower from our various consultants and contractors, the orientation programme for home-owners has commenced. Reflecting the essence of Burj Khalifa, all the homes have been designed to the highest standards and will offer an unparalleled lifestyle choice for residents.”

Armani Residences is developed through a collaboration of Emaar and Giorgio Armani S.p.A. Personally designed by fashion legend Giorgio Armani, the one- and two-bedroom suites are spacious, ranging from 100 to 200 sq metres.

The interiors of Burj Khalifa, including The Residences, are embellished by award-winning designer Ms Nada Andric of Chicago-based Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP (SOM), the architects of the tower. The design elements take cues from the region’s heritage and interpret it into spatial elements with traditional motifs and the right selection of materials. Apart from glass, stainless steel and polished dark stones, the interiors feature Silver Travertine flooring, Venetian stucco walls, handmade rugs, stone flooring and dark, intricate Brazilian Santos Rosewood.

The lobbies and corridors are adorned with luxurious finishes that reflect the overall interior design approach of upholding regional design elements. Local and international art pieces that were specially commissioned for the corridor area of The Residences have also be integrated into the interiors.

Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building anchors Downtown Dubai, the 500-acre self-contained mega-development by Emaar Properties. Residents in the tower will be part of a vibrant community featuring two world-class malls – The Dubai Mall and Souk Al Bahar – and five hotels in addition to the varied amenities within the tower.

Burj Khalifa offers luxurious recreational and leisure facilities including four swimming pools, an exclusive residents’ lounge; health and wellness facilities; At.mosphere, the world’s highest fine dining restaurant at Level 122 and At the Top, the world’s highest observatory deck with an outdoor terrace on Level 124.

Here is an interesting article about the concrete used for the BK. Probably everybody knows this, but good to know they used strong concrete that is helpful for hot, humid climate like in Dubai that prevents corrosion.

I know what you mean. By the end of the week here will be 33C. We are getting back to the hot summer temps a bit early this year I would imagine.

If you are dressed well, it shouldn't be that cold. What is it the temperature there?

PS: Imre, great interior pictures! Saw them on Emirates News tonight. Looking fantastic!

Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, is readying to welcome its first residents, with Emaar Properties currently conducting an orientation programme for Armani Residences homeowners.

Although the interiors of the Armani Residences and The Residences in the Burj Khalifa are still in their final stages, Emaar said that the work is progressing at a fast pace.

The Armani Residences will be the first to be handed over, with the 144 private apartments, the first of their kind, being personally designed by Giorgio Armani.

These will be followed by the opening of the Armani Hotel Dubai, which will occupy the concourse to Level 8 and Levels 38 and 39.

In a statement, the developer said: "The Residences, comprising 900 apartments, and The Corporate Suites, a collection of high end offices, will be handed over to customers starting March."

It added: "The handover programme can take anywhere from two to six months."

Burj Khalifa, formerly Burj Dubai and renamed after the president of the UAE, was opened on Jan 4, as part of a 500 acre self contained mega development by Emaar Properties.

In February, Emaar had closed the tower’s observation deck for maintainence, a month after its fanfare opening.
A Burj Khalifa spokeswoman said that technical issues with the power supply were being worked on, and that the public would be informed upon completion.

Emaar Properties has spent $1.5 billion on the tower since construction began in 2004, and at the peak of construction 12,000 workers were involved.
