Thanks Gerald.

Canon have lent me a 500mm f/4.0 (see review here - http://www.the-digital-picture.com/R...ns-Review.aspx ).

It comes with its own suitcase!

Slapping my 1.4x teleconverter on it will take it up to a 700mm f/5.6. Alternatively, using the 2x teleconverter will take it up to a 1000mm f/8.0. I don't think I'll stack them though

Should be a fun morning

Just to confirm - looks like the lightning rod is installed. I just had a zoom in on the 300MP panorama I took from Business Bay in mid Feb, and there's definitely something sticking up at the top above the beacons that wasn't there before.

Hi everyone.

Can any one tell me if the observation deck has reopened?

I am visiting in June and the last thing I want is a sudden closure!

Hello GSydney,

http://gulfnews.com/news/gulf/uae/bu...-shut-1.591828

Apparently the observation deck is still closed for maintenance. It should be reopened within a week or so. By June it is sure to be opened. Be advised that it is better to buy tickets early as a lot of people want to go up and there a long lines. Buying tickets over the internet is the best option.

You can buy tickets from the Burj Khalifa website a few days before visiting:

Those pictures are interior pictures of Burj Al Arab not Burj Khalifa.

Perhaps once the project is completed you could share your knowledge. I would surely be interested.

Hi Gerald.

You couldn't slap a watermark on your most recent shot of the top and post it could you ?
Along with the lightning rod that is 1.842 m. above the guardrail, there is also a sonimometer that is 1.05 m. above it. Both are higher than the 0.73 m. high beacons. I would like to see if both are installed.

On another note we can expect an article from the CTBUH very soon on the ratification of the Burj height.

Not much point to be honest - you can barely make anything out as it's only a couple of blurry pixels wide (nothing like my avatar shot), but there is definitely something there.

The really bad news is that we've woken up here to a sandstorm, and visibility is about 100m. I've got this great hunking lens for the morning, but won't be able to see a thing.

Now a Burj Khalifa replica from 160,000 phone cards

By Kevin Scott, Staff Reporter Published: 00:00 March 6, 2010

Manoj Khira spent over Dh110,000 over the last six months reconstructing the world's tallest building.

The 28-year-old hospitality worker said: "I have been living in Dubai for 27 years and I wanted to do this for both the city and myself. My father, who has been living here for 45 years, was also a big inspiration."

Khira even visited the real Burj Khalifa to learn how the iconic building was constructed.

He added: "This is my third attempt at building the tower. The first two times, the structure kept tilting and falling. But I visited the Burj Khalifa and officials there gave me helpful advice."

Khira separated the phone cards into bundles and made them into bricks using tape.

Khira has contacted the Burj Khalifa to see if they would be interested in displaying the structure which is around 3.6 metres tall. Representatives from the Guinness World Records are also due to visit Khira's home within the next few weeks.
