Anyway, he should have invested another 1-2000 dhs for buying a right camera and taking better pics of his model and maybe we would see the spire as well

Was this tower given the Burj Khalifa name because of the current economic crisis?

Hi all.

Thanks for the shot of the top 234 and Gerald.
Since the shot is taken from the SE and the sonimometer is on the West side if it is there it is hidden behind the beacon that is on the left as it is only 0.32 m. higher than the beacons. The lightning rod is what we see up there on the North side - cool. I imagine both are installed by now.

Here is how the lightning rod works.
All shots thanks to Imre from his Dec '09 visit to the top.

Here is the top of the support rod that is lowered down in its holders. We can see it is on the North side.

There is a half meter high piece that threads on. The lower half of it is bulbous with a foot long rod on top.

Here is a shot of the upper holder for the support rod.

It is the rod where a camera bag is hanging. We can see the plate welded to the rod that sits on the upper hoder when it is lowered down as it is there. The upper holder has 2 set bolts.

Here is a shot showing the lower holder.

There is something temporarily taped to the support rod in the shot. It will not stay there obviously. We can see lower holder with its 2 set bolts and the hole in the floor of the platform that allows the rod to be lowered as it is there.

With this setup they can loosen the 4 set bolts - lower the assembly down - change the lightning rod top - then raise it back up and tighten the bolts. There is a wire attached to the support rod just below the threads that attaches to the guardrail on its other end. They raise the support rod untill this is taut. This serves both to make sure it is at the correct height and to prevent raising it too far and possibly dropping it off the pinnacle.

Simple yet effective.

Wow, what a lens it is.
I guess it is a 800mm lens, cost perhaps 10K dollar.

Cheers!

Didn't notice the graffiti. I think they are banned from usage here. Maybe I am wrong.

Yes I think Emaar should send Imre back up there and wash it off our beloved structure - with all his camera gear of course.
