It's exactly one month to the day since they closed the OD folks (February 7th - March 7th). Wonder how much money they've lost out on?? Must be incredibly frustrating/disheartening for visitors who made the trip to Dubai purely for this purpose.

Armani Hotel is not yet sewn up
Rebecca Bundhun

Last Updated: March 07. 2010 8:56PM UAE / March 7. 2010 4:56PM GMT

Giorgio Armani will have to wait even longer than expected for the much-anticipated opening of his first hotel, as work on the project inside Dubai’s towering Burj Khalifa will not be completed on time, The National can reveal.

The Italian fashion house owner was supposed to open the Armani Hotel on March 18, a date set after the delayed launch in January of the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world.

But now the hotel’s opening ceremony has been pushed back to April 22 and will open to the public two days later.

The new facility’s reservation department confirmed the opening dates but neither the hotel management nor Emaar, its developer and operator, would comment on the delay.

However, a source close to the property’s management said: “We needed additional time to make sure everything was 100 per cent perfect.”

The observation deck on the 124th floor of the 828m tower closed last month and has yet to reopen. At the time, Emaar said this was for maintenance and did not comment on reports of a faulty lift.

The tower has 57 lifts, with those for the Armani Hotel being separate from those that service the observation deck.

The hotel was first scheduled to open last year, but as the Burj Khalifa suffered construction setbacks, its own launch also had to be pushed back.

The luxury hotel will occupy the levels between the concourse and the eighth floor, and levels 38 and 39 of the tower. Its 160 rooms were personally designed by Mr Armani.

There are also 150 privately owned Armani Residences, which will be handed over to residents before the hotel opens. The venue will also have a nightclub, shop, several restaurants and an Armani Dolci confectionery store.

Armani Hotels and Resorts was launched under an agreement between the fashion company Giorgio Armani and the developer Emaar Properties in 2005.

There are plans to open at least 10 Armani hotels and resorts internationally within the next decade. One is due to open in Milan, Italy, this year and other properties under development include the first Armani Resort, planned for Marrakech, Morocco, and the first Armani Residences villas, in Marassi, Egypt, Armani Hotels and Resorts said.

Other Armani hotels, resorts and residences are being planned for New York, Tokyo, Shanghai and London.

In Dubai, the brand name and the hotel’s location are likely to help the property attract guests during a difficult time for the industry, analysts say.

Hi all.

A month delay for the hotel launch ...
I thought they began taking bookings a week ago.
I perused some renders I've never seen on various lounges, restaurants, and lobbies. All I can say is - fantastic. I can't share right now unfortunately. If another month is what it takes to get it looking as good as those renders so be it - it will be well worth it.

On another note I am finished my final BK plan with the official heights measured from level B1. This is version 6 and the only one that doesn't use the construction plan numbers that measure from the ground level. I took screenshots of the 13 pages I made on excel for ease of sharing. I also finished a giant labeled render with the height and label of each level, section, and tier. I also updated my tier methodology as well. All 3 are zipped into 1 file.

BK_Plan_Methodology_Labeled_Render.zip (2.2 MB)

I hope you all enjoy them as much as I enjoyed making them.

gi all, i have just returned from dubai after a short holiday, it isn't untill you see the burj khalifa in the flesh do you actually appreciate it. it is beautiful no matter what time of day it is viewed. the fountain compliments the building beautifully... almost like the burj has it's own personal dancers who perform for it... and the burj khalifa is so tall that when ure next to it you have to really tilt your nexk back to see it.... on a more personal note ... damn damn shame the deck is closed....

So I understand no one has yet gone home to the Caliph Tower?

When shall anyone go home there?

What is happening to the people made homeless by the delay in the opening of the tower?

My thoughts exactly. This is Dubai, we don't have electrical problems, let alone for a month if this reason is accurate of course. I hope they reopen it soon because it is good for tourism.

Much more plausible and maybe the real reason behind the closing.

That still wouldn't take one month to fix. There are much more serious issues at BD that we don't know about, most probably due to the rushed opening. Sadly not surprised about the delay in opening the Armani Hotel, it can very well be delayed more..

Very nice. I recon this is information is complete enough to build rudimentary a virtual 3d model? The Burj is impossible to understand from photos, I definitely want to give it a shot.

LOL, The lifts are assembled insitu in the shaft, and as such can also be disassembled insitu and all parts replaced or refurbished.

How else do you think they get it into the shaft through the smaller doors?
