Hi all.

Hi Gerald.
Thanx - great shot.
The lightning rod looks to be built to specs.

A few years ago a cell phone tower was erected a few blocks from where I live. I went over there and found (after talking to the guys working on it) that it is (within a few meters) the same height as the pinnacle of the BK. It even has 4 sections of decreasing diameter as it extends up just like the BK pinnacle. Gerald's shot shows all 4 tiers (27 to 30) of the pinnacle nicely and the steep angle makes it easy to see the decreasing diameters of the tiers.
tier 30 - 1.2 dia. - 21.3 high
tier 29 - 1.35 dia. - 9.6 high
tier 28 - 1.5 dia. - 9.6 high
tier 27 - 2.1 dia. - 9.4 high Total pinnacle height - 49.9 meters.

I still stop at the cell tower and walk up to the base and think to myself this thing is quite tall...
Then when I look at a giant render of the BK I am amazed at how much scrolling is needed to get from the base up to that pinnacle ...
Putting the 2 things together in my mind I just fricken marvel at the height of the Burj...
Totally awesome ...

It wasn't Smith if I well remember, probably the guy with the Greek name that I can't remember now.
That Greek architect you said, except of the model heights he confirmed was/is one of the architects of Burj Khalifa?

I almost feel like marking them
The next structure that has the biggest chance of overtaking the BK is the Kingdom Tower in Jeddah, and I don't see that thing even topping out until 2020 at the earliest.

Hi all.

Great pano Sale - keep 'em coming.
Nice shot Gerald.

Corkie. The minimum the Burj will remain the WTS is 7 to 8 years. As Random noted the Kingdom tower is the best candidate at this time. It is in the design stage with the architect already chosen (AS & GG). If construction were to start in a year it would be 6 to 7 years untill completion. I still hold out hope for Nakheel tower and Muburak tower with Nakheel being much further along but both seem to be at a standstill.
This timeline is highly optomistic. It is more likely the next WTS won't be completed for 15 to 20 years.

I think he's the chief structural engineer, which name appears also on official drawings of the tower.

BTW, he's American (Chicagoean) of Greek origin
