Toilet questions - for Fury and/or Altin/Gerald etc.

Then the integrated test and commissioning for the entire structure was to be done after that. These tests involve flushing x % of the toilets at once and turning all the lights on at once - that kind of thing.

I guess now with the way they are handing over an area at a time the final integration test and commissioning won't be done on a structure wide basis.

Seeing as we have a comment about toilets etc. let's refer back to the detailed plan for L113 that was printed a while back. (Office level),

I did not see any urinals in the washrooms - what looked like the male/female washrooms looked alike - with toilets and sinks. If this is so in the U A E (and elsewhere in the region) is there a primarily or totally male population in the offices, or do we have a different convention (compared to North American standards) for designing these facilities by not using urinals ?

Was it built as shown on these diagrams ?

I might add that some of the private washooms shown on this level would have some of best views possible for these facilities given their location on the outside edge of the floorplate.

Comments anyone ??

Thank you

If you think about what the national dress is, the lack of urinals becomes fairly obvious. It's simply not practical, and even in westernised Dubai, it's quite common to only have cubicle facilities.

In almost 11 years of living in Dubai, I have not noticed lack of urinals in washrooms, maybe there might not be as many compared to cubicles as elsewhere (which I don't know if it's true or not) bur certanly they aren't missing.

"Best" is too subjetive a term. In what area is it best? What deos being the best building even mean?

It will definetely be the tallest for a while and one of the world's most impressive engineering feats for a long while as well. But "best" is not a word I'd use. I personally find it pretty ugly. To me it looks like a 1970's moon rocket preparing for launch.

I watched today for the first time the Mega Builder's episode. Gawd ... that phase of constructions seams centuries ago.

After the launch,, [/QUOTE]

nice! what if it really happen! I pass by every day and my eyes always are on the burj more than the road! It makes me think about the limitations of Pictures and videos, one must feel the place and look in real and the word BEST does come out.

Hi Fish.

While I agree the term best isn't the "best" and I definately agree with your statement on tallest and engineering feat, I think your last scentence is the most flattering I've heard yet.
I think the Burj is very elegant and beautiful and the shape of its wings and curves fits very well in its geographical area much as Taipai 101 does. The comparison to the Saturn V rocket is perfect as it is one of the greatest engineering feats in history and the Apollo project is another that I find very appealing. I have mucho info on the Apollo program and in fact had a 3 foot model of the rocket when I was a kid.

I find the Saturn V reference interesting in another way as well. It is to this day the most powerful ever produced, much as the burj may be the tallest for a very long time indeed in these economic times.

The movie "The Towering Inferno" is one of the things that got me into scrapers but the moon landings had my attention before that.

Hi Altin.

Yes - 2006...
I have all the docs on the burj (I think) - let me know if you want to watch any others.
