I was wondering that as well. This area looks nice but needs some people. It looks like a ghost town.

Its Friday which is the weekend here, and this is a commercial area (Media City).

First of all the pic was taken in a public holiday, second don't judge Dubai by European or North American city standards. The layout of the city and the way life is organised, is different and adapts to the climate.

What would people do in a construction site? Why would the white collar class working on the towers in front would be moving around the place for lunch, when the facilities are within the same building?

It is very complicated to explain and even more difficult to understand, unless you've spent a considerable amount of time in the city; Not only that, but you have to be open-minded, leave prejudices home, and be genuinely interested to know what's really going on.

Some don't and come back with some kind of whining crap.

Thanks for the explanation. Dubai is doing a great job bring attention to it's city. Even some of my friends are talking about visiting Dubai now. As more people move into the city and more projects come to completion I hope to have a better understanding of how Dubai and the rest of the UAE function so well.

thanks for the input
although i'm speculative on them hoisting up entire sections and just 'bolting' them to the tower

Yeah, there's something about that layer of fog/haze that makes the city look surreal.

I'm about 90% sure that December 2008 is the T/O date, although current construction status and views from other forumers suggest a much earlier date.
Nonetheless we can't ignore primary sourced info direct from Emaar and in my opinion, the tower will t/o december this year.
Also from an article i read (can't remember which one), it stated that the interior contractors would require or are given 6 months after t/o to complete all the interior work and have the building ready for occupancy by the latter part of 2009 (approx july-september).

I think Chicago may have a rival for "skylines from far away" very, very soon.

My feelings on the BD topping off, are that the spire will be raised at the same time Dubai attempts its world record fireworks display on New Years Eve 2008.

This will be televised world wide, and what a way to advertise to the world about the BD achievment.
