Hi all. (well ... - almost all ...)

Hi Altin.
Good info to know completion is nearing. I'm sure the 45 % of units handed over and 7 % occupancy will be increasing rapidly.

I'm still looking to pin down a fully completed date - your news means not there yet.

The man who lit up Burj Khalifa

DUBAI // In both purpose and looks, the Burj Khalifa and the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in the capital are as different as night and day.

But when the sun goes down, the world's tallest building and the third largest mosque in the world have one thing in common: they come alive courtesy of a beautiful array of lighting designed by the same man.

The complex process was devised and executed by a soft-spoken, bespectacled gentleman named Jonathan Speirs, co-founder of Speirs + Major, a UK lighting design consultancy that boasts a long list of famous international clients.

Fantastic photos guys!

Anyone have any floor plans (hi res) for the tower? I'm looking to rehab my 3D model of this building (shown below) with all the new info that's come out since 2007. Really, any kind of plan or diagram would be helpful.

When I'm done and with your help, it's going to look this good.

Hi all.

Here's a vid from the top of the pinnacle. It is recent because it is the first I've seen where the lightning rod is extended and both anemometers are installed. We can't see the lightning rod assembly but I presume it's there being the support rod is extended.

Hi STR.
I would be happy to help.
I have 94 prints and drawings that zip into a 45 meg file.
I've used Imagehost before but now they only do 10 meg files instead of 100 so how to send ?
I have another small file of my stuff which may be helpfull. It has been dloaded by many but there is one .... person ... here who claims it is infected - it's not though ...

Edit.
The render you posted is spot on except for the different heights of the 3 podiums / entrances and tiers 24, 25, and 26 missing. I never counted levels but the tiers and setbacks look good.
I've seen your work - it is some of the best out there for 3D renders. As are Culwulla's 2D drawings which I helped out with acuracy on his BK.

1) Nothing he sent me was infected. I scanned each file with two different anti-malware apps.

2) I love the word "fanf***ingfantastic." I'm going to make it a point of using it in a conversation tomorrow.

Actually that's not true, Body of Lies shows an under-construction Burj Khalifa in one or two scenes, but nothing close up.

Given the size and irregular shape of the building, I needed something MUCH higher res than that (2000x3000 pixels worked out fine), fortunately Fury was able to hook me up with what I needed.

I'm thinking of doing a huge 1000x6000 pixel render when I'm done. Something that'll take up a whole page.

@Fury -

Hi mate. Lots of interest over at Gizmodo on exactly how they got up there.

Could you summarise the method of getting to the top (elevators, stairs, ladder) with distances involved?

Thanks!

(BTW - As if it all wasn't astonishing enough as it is, apparently one of the stuntmen - Brett Smrz, has a below the knee amputation.)
