So you're saying that the 8.5 million number and 1.6 million number are counting tourists in a different way?

Right - now it gets interesting.

The 8.5 million (total number over the year) is only hotel guests, and the 1.6 million (on every single day of the year) is hotel guests and others.

OK, let's take out the hotel guests then from the 26.6 million.

26.6-8.5 = 18.1 million.

There are 65,000 hotel rooms. Assume double occupancy on average, and that gives an average stay of 5.6 nights. 65,000 hotel rooms = 130,000 people at any one time.

So take out the 130,000 from the 1.6 million.

1.47 million non-hotel tourists on every day of the year, accounting for 18.1 million visits over the course of the year.

Average length of stay of this category = 29.6 days.

Basically, they're all maxing out their visit visas on every trip

(this should really be in another thread. Anyone got a nice picture of the Burj they want to share to get us back on track?)

Which floor has the unusually clear (or less reflective) windows? I've always expected to see lights coming out of it, and unless I've overlooked it, we haven't discovered its purpose yet. (Seems like that floor is higher than 120, but I'm too lazy to look back for photos of it.)

Hi guys.

Swiddle - that was answered a couple years ago. You are correct, there are big spotlights behind that clear row of cladding that are permanent.
Yes, the row is much higher than the '120th or so' level at 430 or so meters. It is the bottom row of cladding (of 2) of section 21A at 698.1 meters.

Sale - being that is an office level perhaps the lighting was for tenants who are doing their fitout or Emaar doing fitout work for a tenant ?

I don't know if related at all, but the official open party of the Dubai Fashion Week was held last night at the Armani Prive. Maybe some show or preparation for it were going on at that other high level

So here's a question..... We all know the building probably has a copper rod to ground the lightning, right? Does the rod run through the centre of the tower? Or is the entire tower the conductor?

I reckon that's possibly the best Dubai lightning photo I've ever seen.

Needs quite a bit of work to tidy it up but my word, what a great shot!

I'm honestly confused and have no idea what am I looking at

The small size of the picture and of the screen I am looking at, doesn't help ... it looks like film though.

Hi all.

Hi Face.
Those lightning shots are from the storm on Jan. 10 2010.
They are wicked shots for sure.

Hi Gerald.
So free copies of your book for all your SSC homies ... ?

I'm curious. The top forty or so floors of the building that are not habitable; what kind of surface area do they have? I imagine it would have to be pretty decent anywhere from 500 to 1500 sq/f. I assume there is no elevator going past the 162nd floor thus the floors above are not habitable. Anyone know the answers?

... even if those floors are only 500 sq/f I would not mind living there if they'd let me. I don't mind climbing a fire ladder into my one room den on top of the world.
