Yes Altin:Two leaping cats now but cant position on the BK Boulevard to get BK in the centre.

But yes we should add interesting things to the usual images of BK to make it interesting as we have just about covered the tower from every angle. As above pics even the clouds can make a difference.

We do read these articles.

Here's a great read on the surveying and health monitoring systems used on the Burj - the latest technical paper at the CTBUH.
Ground breaking stuff.

http://www.ctbuh.org/TallBuildings/TechnicalPapers

A couple things that caught my eye ...
- Height at the top of the concrete section (floor of level 156) can change by 150 mm in the span of 6 hours !
- the out of plumb tolerance for each level was 15 mm during construction.

Ray.
Since those measurements for the CTBUH were shown to as many as three decimals of meters ( hence millimeters ), they could be affected by the time of day they were taken. If in the daytime, it would be higher, than at the end of the night.

Next comment - would these instruments be able to pick up an event like the 9.0 earthquake on March 11 ?

Is the Burj the first building to have its own instruments like this, or will this idea become commonplace in future ?

I need to go back over this and make sure I understand it properly - then will have more questions.

Thank you for posting this kind of data - it is an education.

Hi Library.

PM me on that one.
Only a select few will have access to anything but screenshots.

- I thought about that as well. I presume the numbers from SOM (that the CTBUH used for their official measure) on all their drawings conform to some industry standard for the temperature that the measurement is taken at (ie: 21 c.). This does mean at certain times of the day / night the structure will be higher / lower than the 829.842 meters by as much as 250 mm (a guess) depending on where that standard is.

- Not sure on that one. My guess is no. See these from 2006 - 152 meters.

With all the motion being recorded I'm not sure if siesmic would show up.
I wish there was labels for the vertical and horizontal axis. I'm guessing the vertical is in mm.

- I haven't looked for info like this on any other building, so whether it is the first I don't know. It does sound like this will be the norm - or already is.

- Your welcome. It's nice to know there are others out there who are interested.

Ray.

Imre, do you know how to get that `lighting effect` on those photos in your first post of the page?

It's called HDR and involves combining of three identical pictures of the subject, one underexposed, one normal and one overexposed. The algorithm is supposed to use the optimally exposed parts from the pictures and combine them to an image with a better throughout exposure. Though the effect on those pictures is overly done, and simulation plug-ins also exists that works a single image.

Not Imre's pictures though.

Easy peasy may be, but I've never HDR-d any picture yet.
