probably not , there is still lots of construction going on and that is going to happen in and around Dubai land, incomplete man made islands which could one day be occupied, lots of great real estate available. but a problem which could effect Dubai in the long run would be sea level rise and water supply, it will be interesting to see what happens to the city.

what i meant are actual supertalls. i think with the projects like the islands and developments around its a perfect thing to attract more people, but even higher buildings may not be profitable after so many supertalls were on hold or very slow in dubai already. i think with giant hotels dubai has enough for the next few years unless visitor numbers rise drastically again

Hi Imre.

Can I buy 1 square foot ?
I'll stand the whole time I'm there ...

On another note ...
It looks like the BK will be knocked out of the supertalls world cup by the Chrysler building. I'm surprised but of any to knock it out, I would have preferred the CB or ESB - both great icons.

On another note ...
Some info on parts being completed / opened would be good.

Ray.

Yeah sure enough I can download the BBC site's installer app but of course it won't let me download the episode. Oh well, I'm sure it'll become available at some point elsewhere... Thanks for the screenshots though!

Burj will loose , people are voting for country not the towers.

Anyway its not a problem , it will be the tallest for a long

theyre not voting for country. this tower, put quite simply, is mediocre at best. the only aspect of it that stands out at all is its height.

Of course they are not voting for a country. They have never done that, not even during the ''golden'' era of 'city vs city' .... but probably you weren't even using a computer back then.

Such a narrow minded view ... - the BK has one of the best designs ever.
AS may have had some mediocre designs early in his career but not in the last decades.

People are voting for towers, not the heights. Just because BK is tallest doesn't make it the crowd favourite. Chrysler Building is a classic and one of the first iconic skyscrapers. BK may be tall, but it is but a new born in the architectural world.

And to Fury's reply, it being the "best design ever" is of course your point of view. I agree that in my opinion it is one of the best designs ever, however this point of view is not limited to everybody and we should respect those opinions. It is narrow minded to retort to someones distaste of a tower as wrong because it doesn't fit your view.

Let's be real for a second here, half of the people dissliking the tower, do it for reasons totally unrelated to architecture.

I can understand the Chrysler building getting more votes than the Burj. Both icons of their time, but there is a certain romance that goes with the Chrysler building that the Burj can't compete with.

But the Petronas Towers getting more than the ESB? That's just insane.

Hey guys, I needed some help in locating a picture. I have looked all over this thread and can't find a picture that was posted last year.

The picture includes a wide angle shot of Dubai (skyscrapers on SZR and Burj Khalifa in the distance) from Deira, and is tinted blue. When it was posted the pic was a major hit on here. I was wondering if any of you can help me locating it.

I would really appreciate it.

Thank you very much in advance.

Was that maybe one of a rainy day with either the floating or maktoum bridge in the foreground?

Hey Altin, how have you been?

Actually I think it's the road that goes from the floating bridge to Karama was visible along with the dubai metro with two huge, almost identical villas with red roofs in the foreground.

Hey, I've been great, what about you?

Were those two villas actually part of the Sheik's sister huge compaund near the British Embassy (if it's still there)? I think I remember that picture, though I don't know how I can help you to find it. I don't think it was taken by a forumer.
