This is by far the most posted in and most viewed thread in this forum.

Even after the unstickying, it remains an almost permanent feature on the first page (I've only spotted it on page 2 on two occasions in the last few months).

If those running the site care about the views of and click-throughs to advertisements that presumably go towards paying the bills, it's probably a good idea to leave it where it is.

Ah, so that explains it. If that's the case, then I expect to see this thread here come 2015

Hi all.

Here's a shot showing the 2 burj's and the marina.

Had to use filedropper to retain original 10 meg size.

Hi Random.
Obviously the thread isn't going to be here that long ...
Gerald does have a point though - untill we get some indication that the whole of the works is complete.

Let me reiterate ...
It doesn't matter to me where this thread is on the forum - it will be posted in. Why it matters to some that it is not here is beyond me .....

Dubai to lose world’s tallest tower record

A Saudi tycoon plans to build a tower that will surpass Burj Khalifa’s iconic status

Saudi royal in contract to build world's tallest tower

Aug 02, 2011 at 03:59

By Reuters

DUBAI, Aug 2 (Reuters) - Kingdom Holding , owned by Saudi billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, said on Tuesday an associate firm signed a contract worth 4.6 billion riyals ($1.23 billion) with Bin Laden Group to build the world's tallest tower in Jeddah.

The proposed tower will stretch a kilometre high and include a hotel, serviced apartments, luxury condominiums and offices, Kingdom said in a statement.

If completed, the tower will replace Dubai's Burj Khalifa, standing 828 metres tall, as the tallest tower in the world. The Burj Khalifa was built by Emaar Properties for a total cost of $1.5 billion.

The tower is part of the first phase of Kingdom City, which is being built north of the Red Sea port city.

Kingdom said the associate firm, Jeddah Economic Co., will be 16.63 percent-owned by the Bin Laden Group while Kingdom will hold a 33.35 percent stake in the venture.

Kingdom Tower to top reigning champ Burj Khalifa by 173m

Construction of the 1km-high building in Jeddah to start soon

By Sona NambiarPublished Tuesday, August 02, 2011

The US-headquartered architectural practice Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture (AS+GG) has revealed the design for the Kingdom Tower, which is to be the world’s tallest building at 1 kilometre height.

It will be built in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The tower’s height will be at least 173 meters (568 feet) taller than the world’s current tallest building, Dubai’s 828-meter-tall Burj Khalifa, which was designed by Adrian Smith while at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM).

At over 1,000 meters (3,280 feet) and a total construction area of 530,000 square meters (5.7 million square feet), Kingdom Tower will be the centerpiece and first construction phase of the Kingdom City development on a 5.3 million-square-meter site in north Jeddah.

Is that one of Gerald D.'s photos above? Looks like it was taken with a tilt-shift lens.

I know it's just one, small render and one angle, but I prefer BK's design over KT's. The tripod shape is getting overdone.

Perfect pads for single people in Dubai

Daryl enjoys the comfort and peace that come with living in the Burj Khalifa. Image Credit: Stefan Lindeque/ANM

Burj Khalifa, Downtown Dubai

Resident says: Daryl Patni, commercial photographer, Indian

Thumbs-up or veto: The Burj Khalifa is a great option for singles or young couples. The building is, however, not ideal for families with children.
Why Burj Khalifa: I used to live in Jumeirah Lakes Towers but always dreamt of living in the Burj Khalifa. When the prices dropped, I lapped up the opportunity to buy a two-bedroom apartment on the 21st floor of the Burj Khalifa. I bought it for Dh4.2 million. My apartment offers great views of Shaikh Zayed Road and the sea.
Where you let your hair down: I head to the Dubai Mall to enjoy its multiple attractions.
Advantages: I particularly enjoy the comfort and peace associated with high-end vertical living. The main attraction, however, is the unparalleled location.
Niggles: The main glitches would be the two small swimming pools and gyms. These can get crowded if there are many people using them simultaneously. I think these facilities are not appropriate for a building with approximately 800 apartments and where owners also pay high maintenance fees. I wouldn't recommend the Burj Khalifa to people who use facilities like the pool and gym on a regular basis.

The tripod is the most efficient way to reach any height from an engineering perspective. There is no better design.

Hi 600.
The official highest occupied level is also the highest tenant level. It is the highest level of the 3 level office suite - level 154 at 584.50 meters or 1917.7 feet. Of course, maintenance personnel can go right to the top.

Hi Paul.
The 3 lobed design also offers unobstructed views from the greatest number of units.

Nope. I know whose it is though and let him know that E247 had ripped it off. It's no longer used for the article, but remains on their site.
