well looks the official measurement will be taken from main entrance which is 15.7m above slab. this is where the 819m is taken from, thus total above slab will be 835m.

see diagram below.
you can see ground level indicated. (3 full levels below ground lobby.)
. the grey areas are below grd.

building height in my line of work (building codes consulting) is measured from lowest average grade to top of building; grade being adjacent ground contact to side of building on each respective side. as this is not a sloping site, the grade is the same on all sides (?) and pretty clearly "grade " for this tower is the ground level.

Yes I agree with that, every other major skyscraper is measured from ground level even though they have underground levels that would contribute to the height of the building. Burj Dubai should be no different, even though it is special.

of course can birds fly to the top of Burj Dubai . the highest flight of a bird was over 10.000m.......
