But still, what about the Gold Souk!? To me, this proposed extension sounds like someone's having their head up in the clouds. Even in the "normal" part of the Mall quite a few shops are still not occupied. I agree that Dubai Mall is overall a busy place, but does it really need an extension? I will never understand why so many things get started in Dubai and are never truly finished
Maybe the so-called extansion does indeed includes the redevelopment of the Gold Souq area, but I don't agree about the main entrance part. Don't forget that the proposed tram service passes just next to the area, and they have already build the pillars for the tracks. Also, not everyone goes there by own car, or self-park it

It says additional 1 million sq feet, so it cannot be the gold souq as it's already built and exists...

Here's a larger render of the Dubai Mall expansion that appeared in the news.... looks like it's right by the Dubai Fountain, close to Boulevard Plaza....

And sorry to disappoint everyone with this, but the Dubai Metro link render put up by Emaar does not look as impressive as that shiny glass tube that was initially shown in all press releases

Then why even show a shiny glass tube in the first place And it looks like they actually will replace the "Burj steps", I wonder how it's supposed to be squeezed in there.

Hi all.

Yes, it does look like the actual steps will be gone. The area closer to the fountain will remain though. Looks like the expansion will be fairly close to the annex. As I posted before the million sq. ft. is divided into what looks like 5 levels.

Ray.

I don't see how 1 milion sqft can fit in there. Thats roughly 100,000 square meters, right? That would be 14 soccer fields. Divided by five floors that's still 2.8 soccer fields per floor. The space is just not big enough

I don't want to sound negative on this. Of course I'd like an extension. Sure. Why not. I am just getting increasingly annoyed by the secretive and exaggerated official statements in Dubai. It drives me nuts!

The render suggests that part of the annex will be connected to the mall via a bridge...... Look closely
