Will Dubai ever be made green, or will it mostly stay as in the photos above?

They try to make it as green as possible. But i doubt they will make everything green and lush, since the maintance of keeping it all neat is too pricey, even for Dubai.

Funny shit.....thanks for the laugh!!!
It works in Afrika. Not the rain. But they are planting millions of trees in some parts and after a few years, no service is needed anymore. Of course a lot of plants die, but that creates a better soil. And on those soil can seeds from plants that are still doing well grow.

And earth already has adapted to a lot of OUR changes. What do think what happens with large jungles that are turned into farmland. Local climate changes.

There are enough companies working to on this problem already. Just Google "Turning deserts into forests" and you'll find lots of study's and projects.

Point is, Dubai can make itself a lot greener if they are willing to put money into it. Problem is, there is no direct return of investment in planting trees.

This building is beautiful! If they could build another 20 high rise buildings near the burj, this would look like a city straight out of 2050!

I agree, the middle east has given the world some wonderful architecture, arguably the best.
Why is it they are so optimistic about designing the tallest, most beautiful etc?
I really am intrigued.

This, haha. Imagine if the Nakheel would have gotten built. Dubai looks amazing, but it needs to spread out, as it stands, there is one street with a bunch of supertalls, then the burj and some buildings around it, I can't wait to see what dubai looks like once it has a bigger spread out skyline.

the machinery you are using to type your garbage on was probably made by slaves in china - how do you feel about that?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so trying to reserve the Middle East or any one part of the globe as having a monopoly on that is disingenuous at best, myopic and unhinged at worst.

As for their ambition it all comes down to money and opportunity. They discovered a means to create tourism destinations and had the means to do so, which few/no other culture can do at this point. (Not at this scale, at least.) If I had a few billion dollars to spare I can equally transform the likes of Atlanta, or Dortmund, or Mumbai...

Helps to have an exotic water-front location capable of handling the development.

We can debate all we want the merits of how such wealth was achieved, but that's for another thread.
