There is no visible construction going on on this tower, so why is this thread still in the UC section?

Because it's the world's tallest building and deserves a spot here, since nobody really checks the archives.

Architecture would be a better place. Move it there. It's not UC.

Hi all.

I (somewhat arbitrarily) called the whole of the works for this project complete July first 2011.

What follows is a status list I compiled at that time ...

Here is the status of the project IMHO
- The Club (pool annex) - completed - not open for business yet (word is, it will be open to the public as well as tenants)
- The Offices (office annex) - completed - not occupied
- All three Armani retail outlets - completed and open for business
- All nine restaurants (technically, there are ten) - completed and open for business
- Hotel zone - completed and open for business
- Armani residences (Residential zone 1) - completed - fully handed over - partially occupied
- Hotel residences (Residential zone 2) - completed - fully handed over - partially occupied
- Residences (Residential zone 3) - completed - fully handed over - partially occupied
- Luxury residences (Residential zone 4) - completed - fully handed over - partially occupied
- Observation deck - completed and open for business
- Office zone - completed - not occupied

So here we are - over a year later.
I haven't seen any info suggesting any changes to that list whatsoever. If the structure was still U/C I would say it is on hold ...
The office zone and office annex may still be empty based on a surplus of office space in Dubai, but I wonder what the holdup is on opening The Club (health annex).

I realize this structure may take some years to be fully occupied but I expected more movement by now - a year after completion and 2 1/2 years after inauguration.

Have any of you guys in Dubai heard any news on any items in the list above ?

Thanks.

Ray.

It's not that. The only reason it's still there is because this single thread contributes significantly to the profits owners of ssc are making.

This thread is still here due to the 9+ million pages views it has and the traffic SSC garners from it.

It's going to take 10 years or longer to be occupied.

The ESB, built at the onset of the last Great Depression, sat mostly empty until 1948 or so. Huge buildings like this call financial tops due to their ambition and need for large amounts of credit funding, and the massive amounts of floorspace put on the market causes a glut in that particular city for years, or decades, to come.

Look at NYC and the tall buildings constructed there and notice the huge time gap after the ESB went up until the next wave began. 27 years to absorb that massive glut of office space created by the 1929-1933 bldg boom.
