Wonder what's taking them so long to sort out the tile work. I hate the exposed concrete look

Yes, tiles. Pretty standard for all underpasses in the UAE. Here are some examples:

Emirates Towers/SZR underpass:

Let me guess, you object to painting of road interchanges and Metro tracks bridges and pillars too ... right?

I'm sick of seeing those tiles and I actually loved the stained, bare concrete walls. Paint would be acceptable, though.

But please stop delaying the opening of tunnels for decades just to fit in stupid tiles

The view from Palm Jumeirah this morning:

I think they will eventually add acrylic (or something?) panels to the side of the tunnel. If you zoom in on this GigaPan and look at the DIFC end of the Sheikh Zayed Road to DIFC tunnel, then you can see that one of the panels have already been added to that tunnel, but it has been there since the beginning 2011, so I am unsure if it will be used.

I think it looks good.

I was wondering if there's any high rise observation decks that are open to the public where I could get a good photo of the Burj Kalifa. I'll be going to Dubai next Thursday and would like to get some good shots of it from various vantage points. There's some great photos on this thread and I can't wait to see it in person. Thanks.

That'ss too old of a thread

The guy can always go at the Level 43 roof bar at 4 Pointss Sheraton Sheikdh Zayed Road. Many pictures are taken from there, however there are points around the Downtown area where you can take great angle pictures. The only thing you need is a wide angle lens (a MUST) and a tripod for night shoots.
