I was a bit slow I'm afraid... but that is going to make the observation deck slightly higher than the CN Tower in Canada!!!
So here you go:

I remember seeing this on the burjdubaiskyscraper website as it happened, back in 2007.

With all those RC helicopter with camera, you no longer need a tower to take good pictures.

indeed very good point

but i still believe this has been taken from a still point of view and not from a drone

drones can usually take excellent daytime pictures....but night night not really (unless a very expensive one)

Well...there is no need to worry about having to climb a huge tower to take a great night shot, as the great thing about an RC drone is that you could always park it on a roof or terrace of a suitable tower and simply operate the still shot directly from the ground. Problem solved!

But that was exactly his point, which is that suitable tower?

I have a question:

Why exactly was this thread re-opened? New development? Or thread too popular to close it?

It hasn't been re-opened. It's clearly in the archives where most completed project threads go. They hardly ever lock them(why would they?), so people are still able to discuss the project

Okay, then why was it unlocked? Because I'm 100% sure it was locked.
This thread was dead between March 2013 and November 2014.

No, it was never locked, just like the rest of the archives. 1WTC thread still has a lot of action, and it's in the archives as well

It wasn't locked in Nov2014, It was dead because nothing much happened since Mar13, but they decide to open another observation deck in Nov, so it become alive again.
