was he even fined ? because i read on Gulf news that police just made him sign a statement that he would "not do it again"

which would be quite shocking...in recent history Dubai was the place where they would put anyone in jail for the slightest incident (alcohol, driving etc...)

i cannot imagine Dubai authorities let this man go so easily with this crime (or could have been a crime given number of people gathering down Burj Khalifa)

In all accounts that stupid guy seem very fine if i believe he is still posting videos on youtube

He deserved JAIL , nothing else !!!

I totally agree but I think Dubai Police did what they can do and I am pretty sure he won't ever do it again, cz authority doesn't play around. Or I hope its the case

ah oki, i understand better now

but from what iknow of dubai (i just left living there after 4 years) many people find themselves behind bars for less than that...so i'm still wondering why not that fool

anyway, system is dodgy...his video has attracted millions so i guess the videos will pay for the potential fine through adds money...and probably encourage him to do other crazy and risky stunts (if not in Dubai, elsewhere)

sadly that seems to be the case, he probably got saved by his fame and Youtube. It is known, that Google makes almost no money by their Youtube concept and have to search for ways to even keep a balance in financing of the site...

I mean, Youtube itself is censoring for their own benefit and letting controversial things like this one or even gruesome "liveleak-worthy" material like chechnya beheadings of the 90ies (if you search well enough) on the site, if they even know about it - those were uploaded in earlier days, while there were much less videos, even then they might have had insufficient staff and missed those

Youtube now openly admits that it cannot adequately control the overwhelmingly amount of material (just search for upload numbers): they now let children and other potentially unqualified people decide who is worthy of existing on Youtube (Heroes program), this will backfire in time

back to the ukrainian "TechRax" called Taras, he is a ruthless sellout using anything to get views, exaggerating the drop height to 829m instead of the 555.7m if he even was at the 148th and not the 124th floor, bad enough...

Dubai attracts and possibly protects rich or famous people with bigger audiences (could fear the potential shitstorm of fans?)

don't underestimate the combined power and stupidity from the Masses of users on the Internet , where information is cut out of context, misrepresented etc. and the ultimate impact of the spread articles written by unqualified "bloggers", bots, e.g. on companies, products, ads and people that are famous/viral

i'm not saying that the potential of the critique by the internet to bring down or control certain powers is bad per se, but the users must be careful in their research and unbiased - (for example some would like Taras to be killed, which is inacceptable, a fine and Youtube deleting the video or even shutting his channel down for some time decreasing his income without views could be adequate, but Youtube would loose money and get more hate of fans, etc.)

while Youtube itself has guidelines to censor things that are potentially dangerous for children to reciprocate, it is hipocritical in many ways

Hi all.

Dropping a smart phone (or anything, for that matter) from high up is very foolish. It looks like it might have landed on the office podium and although it may not be as busy as the hotel podium there could still be people sight seeing there.

Ray.

No, at the minimum, he should be locked up, then ban from using any phone/cameras, and ban from accessing any building taller then 2 storey.

I'm choosing to assume that it was known what he was going to do and therefor security did not allow anyone in that spot at that time. I really hope that was the case because it was such a reckless act.. considering the consequences.. it would have been best if he just spat

He is only making a stupid youtube video, Tom Cruise doing Mission Impossible probably don't get that level of clearance.

hey guys, I'm working on a detailed 3D model of Burj Khalifa and am looking for more closeups of the surrounding base and park and the lowest level decks. I skimmed though the last 150 pages of this thread but most images are of the tower only.

Is there maybe an extra thread for the plaza/park? Or can someone provide me with more images or where could I look?

Cheers

yes, thank you. I'm using http://dubaimap.hipa.ae/index.html but it's good to have an image file ready from this view also.

The google search has mostly top view or distant images also. I'm still looking for more closeup images, like street level.
