DUBAI - With the slogan "Light Up 2018" Dubai has disappointed tourists with ten minutes of laser instead of traditional fires that have fascinated the public in previous years in one of the country's greatest symbols: the Burj Khalifa skyscraper.

In the local newspapers the skeik Mohamed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who heads Dubai, promised a show with a record of light and already announced that this year the celebration would have more laser than fire for security reasons. The weather was frustrating on the streets.

"Will not there be fireworks?" Asked the Brazilian Mariana, 7, to her mother.

A couple who came from Abu Dhabi just to see the fireworks in Dubai commented disappointed:

- In Abu Dhabi there were fires ... Now the sheikh will have to invest in marketing to get that bad impression.

Oh no what will Dubai do now since a bunch of idiots who didn't do their research are disappointed!

The show was breathtaking, the only reason anyone will be disappointed is seeing it on a TV screen which takes so much out of the light glory.

You really have a problem when people are criticising Dubai don´t you? It´s a city, not heaven, and not everybody can love it and what it offers 100%.

my point is as simple as they said it month ago there won't be fireworks .. it is not like they tricked anyone .. that's my problem .. people need to do research before nagging and criticising.

Light show is good, there are fireworks everywhere else.

saw it on TV and still loved it. An 800m tall display is much more impressive than fireworks anyways. And safety should be the first concern, we don't want more beloved supertalls burning

If one prefers Coffee over Tea doesn't mean that one should call all those who prefer Tea idiots.

On this forum we need to be a bit respectful to others views. It is disappointing to see such negative comments.

There is a large section of public who was disappointed by with the Laser show and there was a large section that liked the show. That's fine. Lets see what kind of feed back Emaar gets and whether Emaar goes back to fireworks for the next NY.

Again that is not a problem and I did not address anyone, but saying "In Abu Dhabi there were fires ... Now the sheikh will have to invest in marketing to get that bad impression." and "The weather was frustrating on the streets."

What kind of "opinion" is that, this is addressed as a fact ... but the fact is the show that was KNOWN not to have fireworks drew the biggest crowd in Dubai history speaks volume of how successful it was and I live in Dubai and I've heard what the crowd thought of it, some might prefer fireworks but absolutely NO ONE felt he was cheated or unhappy with it.

Plus in Jumeirah there was fireworks so Dubai did have this option and again I won't defend idiots who didn't do their research under the veil of having an opinion.

Anyhow, I just hate fake news and I was making sure people were clear on the facts

The light show was cool but I prefer fireworks
However, safety comes first if that was the issue

What happen, did a supertall catch fire incident before?

Things sometimes, does go wrong when we play with fire, Sydney has an explosion incident on NYE, that doesn't mean we will cancel the fireworks in the future.
