Anyone think that the steel might pick up in speed now? Seing as it's had a slow start but they should be getting into the swing soon.

All that is in that render are Business Bay, burj dubai complex, DIFC and SZR towers. Some individual towers might not be built, like that tall pyramid one on the left, and a lot of them are generic place holders, but everything in that render is in active development or planning.

Thats way better than my version of it lol XD. I hope we see great speeds in the following months concerning the construction process, so we could make another step into the future. I hope Dubai looks the way it does in the render.

Maybe they deliberately slowed down the construction of the spire and focused on the cladding. It doesn't delays the completition date for the whole building: the time critical work packages are still the interriors. But it delays the decision for the final height. It may also delay the construction start of Al Burj, or Nakheel builds the most expensive solution which is at least a small victory for Emaar.

Work begins on Nakheel's Al Burj

since the al burj thread is close, i thought i post this here
French company Soletanche Bachy is tipped to win the piling and foundations contract for what is expected to become the tallest building in the world, Nakheel’s Al Burj, sources close to the project told Construction Week on Tuesday.

With initial designs putting Al Burj, or the Tall Tower, at over a kilometre high, the building will easily overtake Emaar Properties' Burj Dubai as the world's tallest.

The Burj Dubai is expected to be around 900 metres upon completion at the end of this year, although the final height remains a closely guarded secret.

A spokesperson for Nakheel denied an official award had been made, but confirmed the French company had begun some work on the project.

The spokesperson said testing work had been done on site and an official launch was planned in March.

A source at Soletanche Bachy’s Dubai office confirmed the Tall Tower was among the projects it was working on.

It is common practice in the region for companies to start work on projects prior to actually winning the contract.

Al Burj was initially planned to form part of the Dubai Waterfront development, but the location was moved to between Jumeirah Lake Towers and Ibn Battuta Mall on Sheikh Zayed Road.

Nakheel's Al Burj skyscraper -which, it is believed, will go higher than the Burj Dubai - could be built on a plot of land between Jumeirah Lake Towers and Ibn Battuta Mall on Sheikh Zayed Road, Construction Week has learned.

The project, which has also been referred to as the Tall Tower, was initially planned to form part of the Dubai Waterfront development, but Nakheel has confirmed that it will no longer be built there. The company is currently assessing other locations in Dubai.

"We are assessing various locations, but nothing has been finalised yet. The Al Burj Tower is the same as the Tall Tower," said a spokesperson for Nakheel.

The old Al Burj site at the Waterfront was indeed 20km but the new site by the Marina is closer.
