Internet is also big and has many other forums for you to visit, so I advice you to get the heck out of here and to start browsing somewhere else. So far your contribution in here has been ZERO, nada, null ... actually minus zero.

How much higher could the steel work go? With Al Burj now in Prep and said to go up to 1050m, is there any way Burj could be stretched that far? The spire is designed to be extended, but an extra 200m would surely need more steel floors.

Adding more floors will make Burj Dubai unproportional, so i am not sure if they will take this route. The spire would be extended though i think. I do hope that we see a race for the tallest, but it would have been more interesting to see Nakheel's design of Al Burj.

Both Emaar and Nakheel report to Sheik Mohamed so no war between the two for the tallest will ever happen.

If Al Burj will be taller is not to surpass Burj Dubai but other possible contenders out of UAE.

Lol, so why not build a 2 km tower to beat the Mile High Tower. If they build 2 km tower, no1 will beat them for at least 15-20 years.

People here seem to take any criticism towards buildings and their environments extremely personally. Strange. I wouldn't ever attack other forumers like seems to be a habit here.

-----

Is the BD getting any media attention anywhere? I found this place by googling another building. Then I found about BD too. Otherwise, I have NEVER seen or heard anything about it in any European media. I'm pretty sure that 95% of people in Europe don't know it exists.

When Petronas Towers in Malaysia were built, there were articles and TV-programs everywhere. With Taipei 101 much less, but it was still known. With BD absolutely nothing.

Have the Dubai PR people been lazy?

There had been a report about Burj Dubai last week on the news of the first french national public channel France 2. I've seen a report about this tower on the European channel ARTE some month ago.
Burj Dubai is nowadays the symbol of the growing Emirate Arab Unis. Each time there is a report on this area you see Burj Dubai.

Wait till it's finished , people all over the world will talk about it. I hadnt heard of Taipei 101 untill it was complete. If Burj Dubai won't attract mass- media , i dont know what will .

Back o/t the upper floors are steel correct? Will these floors be for building mechanical and engineering or will they be revenue generating floors? Was the reason for going steel like this because of costs or a engineering reason?

No they will not be revenue generating and the reasons for going steel are engineering.

This is obviously because you haven't been looking. As you just said, you hadn't heard about the building until you accidently visited here. It is then naturally to assume that you would not notice every article it's mentioned in.

To look at the facts, hits on news.google.com
Burj Dubai: 226
Petronas Towers: 52
Tapei 101: 36

As for my personal observations, coming from Norway, a far corner of northern europe. In december and january alone there have been 4 large articles about Dubai, all whom mentioned Burj Dubai widely w/images + one article exclusively about BD. Now this is in a local/regional newspaper. But I can assure you it is not very different from similar papers across europe - not to mention more international ones.

So I suppose what I'm trying to say is; BD is getting extensive PR, even more than SWFC, and it will get a lot more - especially when it is completed.

Most people don't know about the petronas towers either. If you ask your average person what the tallest building in the world is they'll say somewhere in Asia, or else the Empire state building.
