The closeup shots of the top a few pages back make it look really, reeeally skinny up there! Also, great photos Omaro!

yes it is quite thin "up there". thats why they are boutique style offices.
I remember working out the Burj Dubais width compared to other large towers and at 440m high, its same width as Sears Tower (45m wide), so it really is quite massive but doesnt look it because of its sheer height which we have never seen before.

atm its about 25m wide .this will be its width up until lev162 or highest habitable floor.
above this it will reduce slowly to 20m,18m,15m,12m,9m.

Sorry about that I was just being stupid. I know you didn't mean that. Imre's pics are always great to look at too. It's funny how beautiful an unfinished building can be. Hell I thought the foundation was beautiful when it was first poured.

Hi Guys,

This is my first post - woo-hoo - but I've been following the thread for some time. All I can say is, awesome. I don't think there's been anything going on in the world like this for at least 150 years!

Don't know if you know this but here in the UK one of our national TV channels, C4, has a channel ID thingy (10-15 secs before a program to show what channel you're on) that shows Dubai construction from a heli flypast. The towers and cranes merge together to form the channel logo. It includes the BD at an earlier point of construction. I think most people in the UK think it's all CG! There has certainly been some media attention over here in the UK, but not nearly as much as there would have been if the BD was being built in the western world! Shame!

I have one question about the BD and all the other high-rise building going on in Dubai and across Arabia. What is the pressure to go up rather than out? Is it an environmental thing - it's too hard to build into the dessert? Or is it just for 'fun' as it were? I kind of like the idea of the second being the reason.

My neck hurts just looking at the pictures. Beautiful! Now that I see it going up, it reminds me of Adrian Smith's other buildings.

Thats what I have been saying as well.. It looks skinny at the top, but I wager that its still an easy 2000 sq. feet (or somewhere near that figure).

All in all, the top looks skinny. But its not as skinny as most people think...

Well i'm not convinced about that at all, Dubai recieves a huge ammount of media interest in the UK, and this building more so than any other i can think of. For example if you go to BBCnews, you will find around 30 articles on Burj Dubai from the last three years, including a video of the current construction status. Compare this to the tallest tower u/c in america right now, the chicago spire and you find no articles at all. There are actually less articles about building going up in london than there are about the burj dubai. The two exceptions are the shard in London, as it has been on the drawing board for years so lots of articles, and the freedom tower, because of 9/11, and the utter farce that was its design process.
