On a more far fetched thought, it may be that they will need it for a higher spire?
OOO I wish that could be the case but I doubt it, maby they just came up with a whole new logistics strategy to pace things up, prabably as you said about cladding and so on,
On the same moment I am kind of irritated that they are changing plans because I want to know precisely what is going on in each given moment, but on the other hand I think it is exciting that things haven't turned out precisely as Sky's-Fury's-Cul's-Altin's plans are, maybe we will still have some surprises?

one site here, most probably the most Hardcore BD-ists allready know of it but for the others, here it is, has some spectacular aerials of most of Dubais megaprojects, including the whole downtownBurjDubai and the rest, enjoy

I found something that will answer your question perfectly!! See below!!

Edit: Im not sure if this is the exact same process used by the towers on BD.

This process should be very similar. In fact, it should be more obvious when this happens with the BD cranes. In the video, the crane's support tower and its hydraulic lift are the same color. With BD, the lifts are black while the support towers are red and white. Also, you have the BD itself as a frame of reference to the hight of the cranes. That is, you'd more easily be able to tell a crane is getting higher when it is lifted off of its support tower to make room for a new segment of the tower.

It would be awesome if someone in Dubai could make a video of this happening at the top of the Burj! Or just a sequence of still photos.

is there any reason why the cranes main support changes colour from red to white? is it because they have run out of the red!

Spandex, I think you are referring to Boulevard Plaza. Construction has begun: according to recent photos taken by Imre, the core of one of the towers is near the tenth floor.

Holy moly.

The Burj Dubai is gonna be MASSIVE- and already is, obviously.

I'd hate to look up at it- even now. I'd get bad vertigo
