Considering the size of Burj Dubai, and how many people will live and work there, it could very well be a mall for Burj residents only

Congrats to the BD - the first of the new generation of...

is there an (un)official term for 600m+ buildings? BD may stand alone for now, but within a few years there's going to be handful more. Are they Super-Super Talls or (my prefered) Mega-Talls? And what about the trio of proposed 900m+ towers... what are they going to be called? Stupidely-Talls?

well i reckon the mega tall skyscrapers should be 500m+. I conducted a poll last year and hundreds of members voted for a new section because this 300m+ section is too busy. 3 years ago we would have a dozen projects, now we have 100+. its unprecidented.
alot of people think 600m+ but thats mainly because of the old imperial measurment of 2000ft (610m).
We still only have 3 bldgs uc over 600m. not like were inundated.
but we have a few now over 500m.
i would love to have a 500m+ section on the forum. half a kilometre high is a real acheivement.
As for superduper tall and the next height mark should be 800m+ metric or 805m which is half a mile imperial.
1km mark is too high. we may not get one for a while.

500m+ sounds a reasonable measurement and as you point out, there's sufficient number of projects to warrent the class.

If then, as you propose, 800m+ is the next class, BD will stand alone in it for a good few years, and rightly so. That gives me an idea... maybe the class should be named after the first building to reach the new height. Any subsequent building to reach 800m+ would be a BD class building

What then would the 500m+ class be called? Sears Class?

Being pedantic, Megatall should be reserved for 1000m+ ... mega = 1 million and 1000m = 1,000,000 mm

Agree Cul, that would be probably the best sectioning for now. But the names should be 500+ Reallytalls then 800+ OMGsotalls and so on.

+500 section is logical because there are totally 36 skyscrapers taller than 500m. that are UC, approved, proposed...and so on.

If we consider that the number of +500 skycrapers is getting more day by day, +500 section will be needed.

Can u imagine how many people such a large mall takes to be profitable? The number of people in the Downtown Burj Dubai will be not even closely enough for that... It takes many hundret thousands more.

And... what u wanna buy all the time as a resident? People who live there will just need food and stuff of daily use... they wont buy a Burj statue every day...

It seems that the Mile High building in Jeddah will PROBABLY go ahead. At this point not 100%. If we have a building over 1600m, that would be an anomaly on the nomenclature of the different heights of buildings.

We need a section for 500m or over and if we get one kilometer buildings then later on make a 1km+ section. We need enough 800m buildings to get its own section othewise they would fit in the 500m category even though they are much higher.

I do not agree that today a 300m building should be called supertall. They are a dime a dozen. One can use 500m for that mark. Ideally the Burj Dubai set the new mark for being supertall. It is superior to all tall buildings including future 600m towers.

The word Hyper is a Greek word which is pronounced "EE-Pear" with hard emphasis on the letter "r". This would stem the word Hypertall. Hyper in Greek really translates above and beyond what is customary and above ALL else. Today the BD gets that distinction. In the future it will loose that distinction to a possible Mile High Building. By the correct usage of "Hyper", only the record holder or a series of buildings that are around the world record in height can be classed as Hypertall.

Yes Cullwulla, we need to change the table in the website for easier access.
