Just a random question... Am I the only one who thinks that this tower makes that area of Dubai kind of look like Farpoint station from the pilot of Star Trek: The Next Generation? I think that's pretty cool, just wondering if anyone else feels the same.

No doubt the CS crew are talking to the BD concrete pumpers. The same technological advances will be needed for the next generation of ultra talls. Even if steel-framed, it seems concrete cores are the way to go these days.

In Burj Dubai the concrete was pumped up to the top of the concrete structure that stands 585.70 meters up.

Yep! I Do

And thankyou sooooo much to Dubai Freak for recording and uploading the documentary on Burj Dubai - very much appreciated

Also, i have a question to ask. I don't want to sound stupid or anything, but why isn't the mech floor cladding installed at the same time as the other cladding?

thanks

Well, I don't want to get all political that early in my life on this forum, but I'd assume that it probably has something to do with them being able to afford an enourmous workforce thanks to the inhumanely low wages they pay, so it's bound to have a benefit on the construction speed.

Someone tell me why mechanical floor cladding isn't progressing quick enough.

sometimes they have to lower in by crane the plant equipment. its quicker when facade hasnt been put on, so after they place large plant/mech equip in, then they give ok to commence cladding on sections of mechanical floors.

Are the mechanical floors the uncladded ones in the concrete structure?

I just seen a program on channel 4 about a guy who climbs skyscrapers. They call him Spiderman. Has anyone heard of him and do you know if he plans to climb the Burj? He has already climbed 101 and Jin mao. Would be an awesome way to open the Burj, having spiderman climb to the top and turn on the aircraft beacons!

Yes. The groups of floors together are. Theres the odd section that has been temporarily put in the "too hard basket" for one reason or another. The top floor or 2 in each section before the setback seem to be consistantly left free of cladding for now as well.

This is going to be one of the most beautiful structures ever build by man's hands.
I can't wait to enjoy it.

Yeah, I know. What I mean is that they installed those panels a while ago and there doesn't seem to be any progress since then.
